Position: Application Integration Specialist (SSO Migration - Okta)
Location: Boston, MA - Hybrid (Mostly remote with occasional onsite days based on project need)
Job Type: Contract
Duration: 3 months
Position Summary
The client is seeking a Temporary Application Integration Specialist to support the completion of a strategic Single Sign-On (SSO) migration initiative.
The position will focus on migrating approximately 30 applications from the the client's in-house Shibboleth Identity Provider (IdP) to the client's new cloud-based Okta Identity Provider. All the applications use the SAML SSO protocol.
This individual will play a critical role in ensuring a smooth transition for campus users and business partners by coordinating technical and communication efforts among internal stakeholders, Information Technology, and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage the migration of SSO integrations from the legacy in-house SSO backend (Shibboleth) to Okta SAML-based authentication.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (application owners, business units, and IT staff) to schedule, prioritize, and execute migrations.
- Liaise with Information Technology for alignment with institutional identity and access management standards.
- Work directly with vendor technical support teams to troubleshoot and configure SAML integration parameters (metadata exchange, attribute mapping, certificates, etc.).
- Configure and test application connections within Okta, ensuring secure and seamless authentication experiences.
- Perform release validation and document testing outcomes prior to go-live.
- Track progress and maintain documentation of configurations, communications, and migration milestones.
- Identify and escalate issues or risks that may impact project timelines or application functionality.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field or equivalent relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience with SAML 2.0 and SSO implementations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent technical projects and coordinate among diverse stakeholder groups.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and stakeholder communication.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Experience with higher education or complex enterprise IT environments preferred.
- Familiarity with Okta (as either Identity Provider or Service Provider).
- Experience with cloud-based SaaS applications and vendor integrations.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Comfortable working independently and delivering within defined timelines.
