Microsoft 365 Tenant Carve-Out & Consolidation Engineer

Location: Remote 
Duration: Contract
Experience: 7+ years (3+ years with M365 migrations)

Role Summary

We are seeking a Microsoft 365 Engineer with proven experience in tenant carve-outs and tenant consolidations. The ideal candidate will have led or executed migrations involving multiple Microsoft 365 tenants, ensuring minimal business disruption and secure data transfer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute Microsoft 365 tenant carve-outs during divestitures or organizational separation

  • Perform tenant-to-tenant consolidations for mergers or centralization initiatives

  • Plan and execute migrations for:

    • Exchange Online (mailboxes, shared mailboxes, archives)

    • SharePoint Online & OneDrive

    • Microsoft Teams (channels, chats, meetings where applicable)

  • Design and manage identity strategy (Azure AD / Entra ID), including:

    • User object mapping

    • Domain moves

    • Conditional Access considerations

  • Handle mail flow, DNS, MX records, and hybrid scenarios

  • Use and manage migration tools (e.g., Quest, BitTitan, ShareGate, Microsoft native tools)

  • Develop migration runbooks, cutover plans, rollback strategies

  • Ensure security, compliance, and data integrity

  • Work with business and IT stakeholders to coordinate migration timelines

  • Provide post-migration validation and support

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 tenant migrations

  • Demonstrated experience in tenant carve-out or consolidation projects

  • Deep knowledge of:

    • Exchange Online

    • SharePoint Online / OneDrive

    • Microsoft Teams

    • Azure AD / Entra ID

  • Experience with migration tooling (BitTitan, Quest, ShareGate, etc.)

  • Understanding of hybrid environments

  • Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills

  • Ability to work independently and lead migration workstreams

Nice to Have

  • Experience with M&A or divestiture projects

  • Microsoft certifications (MS-100, MS-101, MS-102, etc.)

  • Experience with security & compliance (DLP, retention, eDiscovery)
