We are currently looking for a Cyber Intern to join our team in Dayton, OH for the summer of 2026!
Responsibilities:
We're seeking a highly motivated student for a Cyber cooperative educational (Coop) position in our Dayton, OH office.
Day to day the intern will report to the Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) Lab working typical business hours, where they will perform various cybersecurity related tasks supporting MTSI cyber test, research and tool development. The scope of these tasks would be covering areas such as reverse engineering, penetration testing, adversarial penetration testing, forensics, and cyber tool development and modification where necessary. The intern will be expected to implement sound scientific processes, exercise clear and concise documentation practices, and provide presentations to various members within the CPS team.
Candidates will be responsible for software and data analysis, system characterization, modeling and simulation, and development of test architectures around the software/data under test. Candidates will have an opportunity to work with and learn from a team of experienced engineers and senior subject matter experts. The intern will also delve into a research project during the course of their internship and be required to present their findings at the end of internship.
Under the guidance of technical SMEs:
Intern conducts best-of-breed comparative investigations on open-source projects to provide solutions and tool capabilities enabling Cyber Physical Systems research
Intern conducts proof-of-functionality testing of cyber tools demonstrating successful design, implementation, and configurability
Intern generates and/or gathers useful test data to support the demonstration of such tools
Intern provides and develops basic modifications to the above tools, tailoring them to lab and project requirements
Areas of interest for this work include binary reverse engineering, penetration testing, software defined radio, machine learning, and vulnerability research
Intern completes documentation of methodologies and processes related to all efforts
Intern provides periodic training to lab personnel on tool usage
Intern provides final oral and written presentations on tools research
Intern will assist with direct customer work as able, dependent on contract type and skill alignment
Qualifications:
Candidate must be currently enrolled in a STEM related degree program
GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale
Required Skills:
Candidates should have demonstrated skill sets in programming languages such as C, C++, Java, and Python
Enthusiastic problem solver with a demonstrated ability to solve difficult hardware and software integration challenges.
Motivated self-starter who is able to work both independently and in a team environment with minimal guidance.
The candidate must have good analytic skills and be able to communicate complex technical issues both orally and in writing and will be responsible for the creation of all required data products, test reports, and other documentation as required.
