Job Details

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Lead Network Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team in Akron, OH. This leadership role is responsible for architecting, implementing, and optimizing robust, secure, and scalable networking systems across the organization. As a key player in supporting both clinical operations and administrative systems, the Lead Network Engineer ensures that our network infrastructure is resilient, secure, and aligned with industry best practices.

This position will lead a team of network engineers and serve as a senior technical expert and escalation point for all networking initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and manage enterprise network solutions including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and cloud-based network environments.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and escalation point for all network-related issues.
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational departments to understand network requirements and ensure systems support patient care applications.
  • Lead network architecture and security projects, including firewall implementations, VPN configurations, and network segmentation strategies.
  • Work closely with vendors and service providers to maintain and upgrade network hardware/software.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including network diagrams, runbooks, and configuration standards.
  • Ensure network compliance with security policies, HIPAA regulations, and other industry standards.
  • Mentor and guide junior network engineers and provide technical leadership within the infrastructure team.
  • Manage and support tools related to network performance monitoring, capacity planning, and alerting.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for high-priority escalations.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in enterprise network engineering.
  • Proven experience in network architecture, implementation, and operations.
  • Prior experience in the healthcare industry or a regulated environment preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of Cisco networking solutions (switches, routers, wireless).
  • Strong experience with Palo Alto Networks, firewalls, and network security best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Networking and hybrid cloud connectivity.
  • Familiarity with VPNs, IDS/IPS, and segmentation technologies.
  • Experience with network automation, scripting (Python, Ansible), and monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Visio for diagramming.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Leadership and team mentoring experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Certifications (not required but a plus):

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
  • Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
