RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Rocklin, CA that is seeking a Senior Linux and UNIX Engineer for a 6-month contract (potential for extension or contract-to-hire). The schedule is on-site Monday-Thursday (location details provided during hiring).

Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Linux/UNIX Engineer to join a dynamic infrastructure team. This role involves designing, implementing, and supporting Linux and UNIX systems across a variety of environments, including data centers, corporate offices, retail locations, distribution centers, call centers, and e-commerce platforms. The Senior Linux and UNIX Engineer will help establish technical standards, optimize system performance, and collaborate on network and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement technical standards for Linux and UNIX operating systems (e.g., RHEL, Rocky Linux, Oracle Linux, Ubuntu, IBM AIX)
* Perform system kernel tuning, performance optimization, and security hardening
* Manage capacity planning for Linux/UNIX repositories and tools, such as version control (GitHub), cloud orchestration (Kubernetes, Rancher, Tanzu), automation and configuration management (Ansible, Morpheus, Red Hat Satellite), and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins)

REQUIREMENTS:
* Extensive expertise in Linux and UNIX operating systems, virtualization platforms, cloud computing, and configuration management tools
* Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, KornShell (ksh), Bash shell scripting)
* In-depth understanding of security best practices for Linux/UNIX environments
* Significant experience with IBM AIX on Power Systems (including managing VIO servers and HMCs) and AIX security features
* Proficiency with patch management solutions (e.g., Red Hat Satellite) and experience managing Active Directory Service Principal Names (SPNs) and keytab files
* Strong background in system performance tuning, monitoring, and automation frameworks
* Experience with Apache/Tomcat application servers and running databases on Linux platforms

Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
* 10+ years of experience managing large-scale enterprise Linux/UNIX systems
* 7+ years of experience leading technical teams or projects
* Familiarity with high-availability and clustered Linux/UNIX environments
* Proven ability to deliver automated and integrated infrastructure solutions in an enterprise setting

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
