RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking an Engineering Manager - Data in West Des Moines, IA.
Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on building platforms and tools that enhance the productivity of data engineering teams across the enterprise. This role is ideal for a technical leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about developer experience, platform engineering, and scalable systems.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and support full-stack engineering teams developing internal platforms and tools to accelerate data engineering workflows
* Provide technical mentorship to senior engineers working with technologies such as MongoDB, SQL Server, Kafka, Java/Spring, and Node.js
* Align team priorities with enterprise data architecture strategies and self-service capabilities
* Define and implement engineering best practices, architectural standards, and SDLC processes
* Collaborate with product owners, data architects, and business stakeholders to translate user needs into sustainable platform features
* Hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent while fostering a culture of ownership, growth, and collaboration
* Manage project delivery, balancing technical debt, support, and new development
* Stay current with trends in developer experience, automation, and platform engineering to drive continuous improvement
* Promote strong collaboration with DevOps, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure platform resilience and scalability
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience (preferred)
* 8+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years in a leadership or management role
* Strong background in distributed systems and event-driven architectures, particularly with Kafka and microservices using Java/Spring and Node.js
* Hands-on experience with MongoDB, SQL Server, and backend performance optimization
* Proven ability to lead agile teams in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
* Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and team-building skills
* Demonstrated ability to align engineering output with business and platform-level goals
* Experience building internal platforms or developer enablement tools is a plus
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
