Serves as a senior-level technical expert in database administration, responsible for managing high-availability, mission-critical database platforms. Supports database architecture, performance optimization, replication, and cloud-based systems. Works closely with application, infrastructure, and compliance teams to support enterprise-wide database environments and ensure service reliability, scalability, and security.

JOB DUTIES

  • Independently administers Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL databases across development, test, and production environments.
  • Monitors and tunes performance at the system, database, and SQL query level using OEM, SQL Profiler, and custom scripts.
  • Designs and implements database replication using Oracle GoldenGate and Microsoft SQL Server Always On or Mirroring.
  • Supports failover technologies such as Oracle Data Guard and Oracle ASM.
  • Performs advanced backup and recovery procedures using Oracle RMAN and SQL Server native tools, including restore testing and automation.
  • Manages schema changes, partitioning strategies, index optimization, and data lifecycle practices (ILM).
  • Develops automation and monitoring scripts in Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, PL/SQL, and T-SQL to reduce operational overhead.
  • Assists in strategic planning for capacity, licensing, and upgrade planning for large, multi-terabyte systems.
  • Provides cloud support for Oracle Database on Azure and Azure SQL environments.
  • Participates in planning and execution of disaster recovery tests and compliance audits.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
  • Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for database performance issues and complex incidents.
  • Coordinates with development teams and solution architects on data modeling, query optimization, and deployment best practices.
  • Develops and enforces database security policies, including encryption, role-based access, and compliance with NERC CIP and SSAE16 standards.
  • Contributes to enterprise-wide initiatives for data availability, disaster recovery, and hybrid cloud integration.
  • Collaborates with infrastructure teams on server performance, storage capacity planning, and backup strategy alignment.
  • Mentors junior and mid-level DBAs through peer reviews, training sessions, and project guidance.
  • Writes and maintains thorough documentation of architecture, processes, scripts, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Leads or contributes to change, incident, and problem management processes following ITIL principles.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in database administration, including high-availability and performance-tuned environments.
  • Experience administering large, complex Oracle and SQL Server databases with active use of GoldenGate, RMAN, Data Guard, and OEM.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve critical performance or availability issues under pressure.
  • Hands-on experience supporting cloud-based databases such as Azure SQL and Oracle DB on Azure platforms.
  • Strong technical background in scripting, automation, monitoring, and backup architecture.
  • Experience working across cross-functional teams, including development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and compliance.
Salary and level will be based on overall experience as determined by ERCOT.

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's Degree: Computer Science, MIS, or related technical field (Required)
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
CERTIFICATIONS
  • Oracle OCP, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, PostgreSQL Certified Professional (Preferred)
WORK LOCATION - Taylor, TX:
  • Employees will be required to be on-site in Taylor, TX at a minimum of 2 days per week, or more, as needed based on the business needs as determined by management
  • On-site schedules are flexible or may be rotated based on business needs as determined by the Manager
  • Remote work is required to be performed from your Texas residence.
  • Employees may opt to work on-site more than required or 100% of the time

Expected Salary Range:
$109,165 - $185,571
