Job Details

Tesla's in-house Lithium Refinery is located in Robstown, TX within the greater Corpus Christi area. This investment is critical to our mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy and represents our efforts to aggressively increase the supply of battery-grade lithium hydroxide available in North America. As the Process Controls Engineer, you will work closely with the Production, Technology, and Design teams to specify, configure, and optimize process control systems and equipment for a first-of-its-kind chemical production process.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and configure DCS and PLC logic and modify existing logic to optimize product quality, yield, throughput, process stability, and lower OpEx costs
  • Develop and configure new operator displays and update existing displays to improve overall usability, intuitive navigation, and operator effectiveness
  • Apply advanced regulatory control strategies and DCS-based model predictive control technology to solve complex process control issues
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Process Engineers, and other Process Control Engineers to ensure that control strategies are functioning as designed and are achieving productivity and material quality targets
  • Troubleshoot process control issues and work with Operations and Maintenance teams to assist them in troubleshooting efforts
  • Own plant wide control loop tuning and equipment/unit optimization
  • Drive standardization, common approaches, and employ RAGAGEP across our Integrated Controls System assets. Close collaboration is expected with OT, IT, EH&S, and Reliability Engineering

Requirements
  • 5+ years as a process controls engineer in a chemical process design or production environment, with demonstrated experience in unit commissioning and production support
  • Experience participating in process hazard reviews and HAZOPs
  • Basic process engineering knowledge, and the ability to translate that knowledge in to control system requirements
  • Extensive experience with DeltaV, including demonstrated experience with: Configuration of basic and advanced regulatory control logic using function block programming, SFC and EM configuration and troubleshooting, Custom code development, Creation and modification of operator graphics using GEMS according to ASM guidelines, Control system administration, Configure and troubleshoot communication with third-party devices
  • Experience with Siemens PLC will help you stand out, with exposure to each of the following considered a plus: Control system hardware selection and control panel design principlesa, PLC hardware configuration and logic programming using function blocks, ladder logic, and structured text, HMI hardware configuration and graphics creation according to ASM guidelines, Communication with other devices and with DeltaV DCS
  • Advanced proficiency with process loop tuning using proven methods
