Mainframe Cobol Developer

Remote

Mainframe COBOL Developer to design, develop, and maintain mission-critical applications on IBM mainframe platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with COBOL programming, JCL, and mainframe utilities, supporting both new development and ongoing maintenance of enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Application Development & Maintenance
    • Design, code, test, and deploy COBOL programs on IBM mainframe systems.
    • Maintain and enhance existing applications to meet evolving business requirements.
    • Develop and optimize JCL scripts for batch processing and job scheduling.
  • System Integration & Support
    • Collaborate with business analysts, QA testers, and cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
    • Provide production support, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely resolution.
    • Work with DB2 databases, VSAM files, and other mainframe data structures.
  • Operational Excellence
  • Document technical specifications, workflows, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards, security, and governance frameworks.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong proficiency in COBOL programming on IBM mainframe systems.
  • Hands-on experience with JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and mainframe utilities.
  • Knowledge of batch and online processing environments.
  • Experience in debugging, performance tuning, and production support.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
