Job Description

This position is in support of the Special Purpose Processor Development Group (SPPDG), a research group focused on design, analysis, and testing of high-performance electronics located on the Rochester, MN campus.

The SPPDG IT Senior Specialist supports the SPPDG computer infrastructure. This position encompasses a range of information technology skill areas including computer system support, IT solutions architect, information security, and computer network implementation and support. The incumbent is expected to be capable of facilitating and performing primary computer support for the SPPDG Windows and Linux platforms as well as understand risk management framework (RMF) concepts and applicable NIST standards. This position is also responsible for leading mid-sized projects, defining tasking, creating budgets and schedules. In addition, this position requires additional specialization in either system administrator (SA) related areas or in information security. SA responsibilities could include support of engineering tools; assessing and defining new system configurations and architectures to support future work; planning, budgeting, and executing IT infrastructure projects. Overall, an SA is responsible for performing research and technical analysis, recommending, configuring, and administering systems (including software) to ensure that the computer system hardware and software needs of the SPPDG are met. Information security responsibilities include developing policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, and managing and performing security compliance monitoring. Responsibilities also include keeping apprised of government and institutional security requirements, submission of required forms and documentation, and communication of IT security related issues with the appropriate authorities. In general, this position is accountable for ensuring that the IT needs of the SPPDG are met from a system administrator or information security perspective.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related major and a minimum of eight (8) years' experience in IT system administration required, OR Associates degree and ten (10) years' experience in IT system administration, OR in lieu of a degree, Twelve (12) years' experience in IT system administration required. Certified as CISSP or will obtain certification within 1 year of hire.

Note: This position requires obtaining and maintaining a TS/SCI clearance and adhering to security requirements as described in the NISPOM. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
