Role: Network Technician

Location: Philadelphia, PA(Onsite)

Type: Contract

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain network\connectivity\cloud and associated solutions
  • Provide day-to-day operation support, monitoring, maintenance, updates, triage, and troubleshooting for Enterprise Networking environment
  • Provide expertise and collaboration on defining enterprise-wide technical design standards for network related technology solutions and propose solutions to leadership
  • Create\Maintain\Update enterprise network diagrams and documentation
  • Research, design, review, test, and implement network related technologies and solutions
  • Engage in solutions research and deployment, systems standards, internet services, capacity planning, Disaster Recovery, platform upgrades\modernization, and process improvement.
  • Contribute to design of network related solutions and partner with Information Security and Compliance in review of all solutions against corporate security and compliance standards and requirements
  • Design, implement, maintain, and support Network Operational monitoring\alerting platform(s) including Business driven dashboards, metrics, and KPI reporting to facilitate clear communication of network related performance across the enterprise
  • IP Address space design
  • External facing infrastructure, fault-tolerance, redundancy, DR, etc.
  • Work with internal departments and clients to determine requirements and then execute\delegate required plans\steps complete implementation.
  • lead efforts with cross-functional teams on enterprise network impacting initiatives and implementations
  • Oversee Network-related projects and initiatives planning and implementation
  • Work with required areas and support staff to facilitate appropriate logistical planning, communication, and execution of network related initiatives
  • Collaborate across business areas to assure compilation of necessary business requirements from stakeholders
  • Review and assess impact of proposed changes to existing environment
  • Participate in implementations and support of all open initiatives and implemented network related technology solutions
  • Provide Mentorship, Training, Vision
  • Provide technical leadership for network related technologies and solutions
  • Work with Company leadership to develop medium- and long-term strategies as the company's goals and needs evolve
  • collaborate across the organization to perform solution impact assessment and set strategy for efforts with major business impact
  • Maintain strong architectural expertise and knowledge of current and emerging technologies and products, and evaluates for both general and specific usage
  • Overseeing test plans, network\connectivity viability reviews, performance metrics design\implementation, and overall network strategy

Education and/or Experience, Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, self-starting Information Technology professional with a minimum BS/BA degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in developing, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting infrastructure\network architectures
  • Advanced knowledge of network operating systems primarily Cisco, Certification preferred (CCNA, CCNP, CCDE, CCIE)
  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, VoiP, BGP, EIGRP, communications and routing protocols
  • Cisco Networking Hardware: Routers, Switches, Firewalls, (Catalyst, 6509-E, Nexus, etc.)
  • Experience with maintaining detailed network diagrams and technical documentation
  • experience with network analysis and operational monitoring\alerting tools (wireshark, Solarwinds, etc.)

Routing Protocols & Design

  • Deep understanding of BGP (eBGP/iBGP): path selection, communities, filtering, route-maps, troubleshooting peering issues.
  • Proficiency in EIGRP: topology design, summarization, convergence, troubleshooting neighbor relationships and path selection.
  • Some experience designing and optimizing hybrid routing environments (internal + external connectivity).
  • Ability to assess and refine route redistribution strategies and route filtering for policy enforcement.

Network Design & Architecture

  • Experience in designing high-availability architectures: redundancy, failover scenarios, dynamic & (HSRP/VRRP), and resiliency planning.
  • Familiar with data center, campus, and WAN designs, including L2/L3 boundaries and segmentation strategies.
  • Understanding of scalable network design principles (hierarchical model, control/data plane separation, route aggregation, etc).

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

  • Skilled in packet capture and analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.) and correlating with routing and switching behaviors.
  • Ability to identify and resolve routing loops, asymmetric routing, and suboptimal path selection.
  • Strong grasp of troubleshooting BGP flaps, MTU issues, and convergence problems.

Switching & Infrastructure

  • Deep understanding of L2 technologies: VLANs, STP/RSTP/MSTP, trunking, EtherChannel, etc.
  • Experience with switch stack management, upgrades, firmware planning, and hardware replacement strategies.
  • Familiar with MAC table and ARP table behavior, especially in larger or dynamic environments.

Firewalls, NAT, and Border Design

  • Understanding how firewalls and NAT interact with routing policies and external BGP routes.
  • Ability to audit and optimize edge designs, especially where routing and security meet (e.g. dual-homed ISPs, DMZs).

Upgrade & Change Management

  • Experience leading network migrations, hardware refreshes, and code upgrades with rollback plans and risk assessment.
  • Familiarity with change control best practices, impact analysis, and post-change validation.

Communication & Strategy

  • Ability to translate technical routing issues into business impact and mitigation steps.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (application, security, systems) to integrate and align network behavior.
  • Capability to mentor junior engineers, lead technical discussions, and write clear documentation/diagrams.
