Job Details
Role: Accessibility Specialist
Rate: $50/hour W2
Schedule: Fully Remote | EST hours
Description:
Provides accessibility subject matter expertise and guidance to cross-functional product teams. Contributes to product planning and milestone reviews to ensure that accessibility principles, requirements and usability standards are clearly communicated and documented. Utilizes clearly defined standards, methods, and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the usability of products with assistive technologies. Collaborates with Engineers to identify, reproduce, prioritize, and document defects. Fosters an inclusive culture and work environment.
Core Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with product management, design, and development teams to define accessibility requirements and acceptance criteria
• Consults on scope of effort, user impact, and regulatory priorities related to accessibility
• Participates in planning, design, code and functional product reviews.
• Contributes to the development of Accessibility testing methodologies. Identifies viable test strategies in order to support testing product functionality
• Responsible for testing and validating software solutions across various assistive technologies to ensure a quality experience for users with disabilities
• Conducts product reviews and represents accessibility user acceptance
• Documents best practices and drives continuous improvement
• Monitors adherence to issue prioritization and deadlines
• Maintains monthly product scorecards and compliance record keeping
• Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion
• Regular, consistent and punctual attendance
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
• Bachelors Degree or Equivalent.
• Deep interest and understanding of consumer assistive technology products
• Experience with accessibility standards and regulations like WCAG 2.0, CVAA, Section 508.
• Strong time management and prioritization skills with a demonstrated ability to execute against multiple projects and excel in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
• Proven ability to build relationships and influence cross-functional teams within a flexible work environment
• Self-starter with ability to quickly grasp complex subject matter
• Ability to work at all levels within the organization
• SUPERB communication skills (speaking, listening, writing and interpreting).
• Testing experience with assistive technologies like JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, ZoomText, Dragon Naturally Speaking, switch devices.
• Enterprise bug tracking software experience.
• Expertise in accessibility test plan creation, user story inputs, writing effective test cases and user-focused acceptance criteria.
