Duration: 7+ Months

Location: Washington D.C., Hybrid 3-4 days onsite

Overview: Every Turnberry consultant belongs to a practice, an internal group of consultants and leaders with shared experience and expertise. As a Java Developer, you will join Turnberry's Digital Modernization practice, where technology and strategy combine to deliver exceptional digital experiences, empowering organizations to thrive in today's digital market.

Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and implement web-based Java applications to support business requirements

Follow approved life cycle methodologies, create design documents, and perform program coding and testing

Resolve technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation

Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

Perform a variety of tasks

Contribute to the design and develop high quality software for large scale Java/Spring Batch/Hadoop distributed systems

Perform unit and system testing of application code as well as execution of implementation activities

Analyze business requirements and create technical design documents that are in accordance with the company's architecture standards

Ensure that expected application performance levels are achieved

Design, code, test, debug, document, maintain, and modify computer programs of high complexity, significance, and risk

Perform and/or lead design, coding, testing, implementation, and documentation of solution

Develop basic and detailed program specifications

Work as part of a team responsible for design, implementation and delivery of action resolution systems that support our flagship products

Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain web services in a microservice architecture at a large-scale handling millions of requests per day

Serve as a technical liaison for internal and external customers and business partners

Provide guidance on application architecture, industry best practices, design patterns and more

Demonstrate a keen sense of responsibility and accountability towards the team's work, its quality and timely delivery

Lead and mentor junior team members

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree: Computer and Information Science or related field

5+ years of relative work experience

Strong programming skills in Java and/or Kotlin

Experience with Spring Boot (or similar), RESTful APIs, and microservices architecture

Familiarity with build tools like Maven or Gradle, and testing frameworks like JUnit

Proficient with Git and version control workflows

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions)

Understanding of containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes

Familiarity with ElasticSearch or similar search platforms

Experience working with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, Redis

Knowledge of JVM performance tuning, profiling, and memory management

Preferred Qualifications:

Deep experience with Kotlin, including coroutines and libraries like http4k, Kotest

Experience with LLMs, LLM integrations, MCP, Agentic Tooling (Big Plus)

Interest in modern backend frameworks and clean architecture principles

The salary range for this role is $115,000 to $165,000 or the hourly equivalent.
