Title: Senior Product Designer

Duration: Long Term (3+ Years)

About the Opportunity

·        As a Senior Product Designer at the College Board, you are a highly skilled, thoughtful, and user-centered practitioner with a passion for designing products and experiences that meet real user needs.

·        You bring strong UI design craft, usability rigor, and systems thinking to complex, content-rich products across web and native mobile platforms.

·        You will work across one or more cross-functional teams and products, collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, researchers, and other designers to shape, validate, and deliver high-quality design solutions.

·        You are comfortable working independently on defined problem spaces while actively seeking feedback, alignment, and shared understanding with teammates and design leadership.

·        This role places a strong emphasis on UI design excellence, usability validation, inclusive design informed by accessibility standards, and working within robust design systems.

·        You bring a structured, detail-oriented approach to your work, maintaining organized files, clear documentation, and consistent design artifacts, while following established team processes and offering thoughtful feedback to improve them.

·        You are an advocate for users and equitable experiences. As a creative problem solver, you identify patterns across large systems, balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, and bring clarity to complex challenges while staying focused on impact.

Job Responsibilities:

Product Discovery and Design Strategy

·        You contribute meaningfully to early-stage discovery and strategic design efforts, partnering with cross-functional teams to explore opportunities and define direction.

·        Design Sprints & Envisioning. Contribute to design sprints, envisioning sessions, and workshops to explore problem spaces, generate ideas, and align teams around shared outcomes.

·        Insight-Driven Direction. Synthesize research, usability findings, behavioral data, and operational inputs into clear, insight-driven design directions.

·        Data-Informed Decisions. Use qualitative and quantitative data to inform, validate, and refine design decisions throughout the product lifecycle.

·        User Advocacy. Champion human-centered, inclusive design practices grounded in accessibility standards to ensure solutions meet diverse user needs.

·        Storytelling. Communicate design rationale, insights, and vision clearly through artifacts, narratives, and presentations.

Design Execution, Usability, and Systems

·        You translate strategy and insights into polished, production-ready design work that scales across platforms.

·        UI Design Excellence. Deliver high-quality UI designs with strong visual hierarchy, interaction clarity, and attention to detail across web and native mobile experiences.

·        Design Systems Expertise (Required).

·        Extensive experience working within robust web design systems and native mobile design systems (iOS and Android).

·        Apply system components, patterns, and tokens accurately while identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.

·        Usability Testing & Validation. Plan, conduct, and synthesize usability testing to validate flows, components, and interactions and drive iterative design improvements.

·        Prototyping. Create prototypes at appropriate fidelity to explore, test, and communicate design solutions.

·        Accessibility & Plain Language. Design and test experiences using inclusive design principles informed by accessibility standards, applying plain language to support clarity and comprehension.

·        Responsive & Mobile Design. Design for responsive, mobile-first web experiences and native mobile applications.

·        AI-Assisted Design (Plus). Leverage AI tools to support ideation, prototyping, exploration, and iteration where appropriate, as an accelerator for design workflows not a replacement for user centered design thinking.

·        Tools. Use tools such as Figma, Figjam, Miro, AdobeCC, Lovable, DScout, User Insight to design, prototype, test, and document work.

Collaboration and Communication

·        You are a strong cross-functional partner who contributes to effective, well-run delivery teams.

·        Cross-Functional Collaboration. Partner closely with product managers, engineers, researchers, and stakeholders throughout discovery, design, and delivery.

·        Structured Work Practices. Maintain organized, well-documented design files and artifacts to support efficient collaboration and continuity.

·        Process Adherence & Feedback. Follow established team workflows and design processes while providing constructive feedback to improve how the team works.

·        Ceremonies & Reviews. Participate in standups, sprint planning, design reviews, critiques, and QA cycles.

·        Design Specifications. Translate design decisions into clear, implementation-ready specifications and annotations.

·        Presenting. Communicate ideas, research insights, and design solutions with clarity and confidence in both synchronous and asynchronous settings.

You have:

·        A portfolio of your work included in your application.

·        A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (interaction design, HCI, industrial design, information science, social sciences, computer science, graphic design, etc.) and/or equivalent years of work experience.

·        3–7 years of experience in product or service design.

·        A strong product design mindset with experience designing for complex, content-rich websites and applications.

·        Excellent skills in creating and communicating design artifacts, including user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs.

·        Proficiency in design thinking and human-centered methodologies, with the ability to translate insights into actionable design direction.

·        Extensive experience working within design systems for both web and native mobile platforms (required).

·        Experience planning and conducting usability testing and incorporating findings into design decisions.

·        A strong understanding of responsive design, inclusive design principles, and accessibility standards.

·        Comfort collaborating with engineers and discussing technical constraints (experience with front-end technologies is a plus).

·        Clear, effective communication skills and a collaborative, user-advocacy mindset.

·        Curiosity and adaptability, with interest in emerging tools and trends, including AI-supported design workflows.
