Pay: $80.00 per hour
Our prestigious client is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to lead the transformation of its IT infrastructure. This is a high-impact role that requires strategic vision and deep hands-on expertise in modernizing legacy systems, designing scalable infrastructure, and implementing robust IT operations practices.
As an Infrastructure Architect, you will evaluate current systems, define the target-state infrastructure architecture, and lead modernization initiatives with a strong focus on virtualization, automation, identity management, and platform resilience. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the stability, scalability, and security of our on-premise environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assess and document the current-state infrastructure including servers, networks, storage, Active Directory, and virtualization.
Define and implement a forward-looking infrastructure architecture to support modernization and digital transformation efforts.
Lead infrastructure-focused modernization projects, including platform upgrades, system integrations, and automation implementations.
Establish and champion best practices for virtualization, systems monitoring, patch management, and automation.
Drive improvements in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, and identity/access management.
Expand ITSM maturity, including CMDB, change management, and problem management processes (e.g., ServiceNow).
Mentor IT operations teams in infrastructure modernization, automation tools, and scalable design patterns.
Current Environment
Fully on-premise infrastructure with VMWare virtualized servers (no cloud migration planned).
Legacy tech stack includes .NET, ASP, Java, and AS400 Mainframe.
ServiceNow used minimally for incident management.
Limited use of Azure (primarily Power BI).
Significant skill gaps in Active Directory management and Windows infrastructure.
No CI/CD pipelines or automation tooling currently in place.
No enterprise integration platform or platform engineering discipline established.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
10+ years of IT infrastructure experience, with at least 5 years in infrastructure or enterprise architecture roles.
Deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, especially Active Directory, Windows Server, and VMWare.
Proven experience leading infrastructure modernization in legacy environments.
Strong understanding of automation (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible), monitoring, and CI/CD integration into infrastructure operations.
Experience implementing or scaling ITSM platforms like ServiceNow beyond basic incident tracking.
Ability to work strategically and tactically in lean environments with limited support resources.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience in retail or consumer-facing industries is a plus.
