job summary:

The Release Engineer is responsible for leading and designing cross-technology release management processes, process optimization, and policy enforcement. This critical role manages the update, upgrade, and maintenance cycles of the Epic production environment. Acting as the key liaison between application development teams and production operations, the Release Engineer ensures control and coordination throughout the software release lifecycle.

responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead and design release management processes across multiple technologies ensuring timely, high-quality Epic production updates and upgrades
  • Serve as the primary liaison between application development and production teams for release coordination and control
  • Develop, analyze, and maintain automation tools that support and improve software release procedures
  • Manage internal project tracking, reporting status updates, and coordinating milestones, readiness reviews, and go/no-go decisions
  • Write and maintain installation scripts and deployment programs for new software releases and updates
  • Organize and schedule complex system programming tasks adhering to University Health policies and procedures
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and maintain positive working relationships with peers and management
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting organizational goals and continuous improvement initiatives


qualifications:

Education & Experience:



  • Four years of college-level coursework toward a degree in Computer Science, Data Processing, or a related field is required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in release engineering, software deployment, or related IT roles
  • Healthcare industry experience is highly desirable
  • Proven experience conducting release readiness reviews, milestone reviews, and business go/no-go assessments
  • Strong familiarity with applications such as Epic, PeopleSoft, Lawson or other ERP systems, Softmed, 3M, OnBase, Portal, Soft Lab, Pharmacy, RIS, Eclipsys, Quovadx
  • Proficiency with databases including Oracle, MUMPS, SQL, and Sybase
  • Solid working knowledge of operating systems including Windows Server 2008/10, UNIX, and Cache
