Position: Design & Release Engineer E-Motors Location: Auburn Hills, MI Job Description: Seeking an experienced Design & Release Engineer to lead the development and launch of electric motor (E-Motor) components. This role supports electrified vehicle programs from concept through production, ensuring performance, quality, and manufacturability. Key Responsibilities: - Guide the engineering development of E-Motor components from sourcing to production launch.
- Release component designs, obtain necessary approvals, and ensure manufacturability.
- Track component readiness, piece cost, mass, and support long-term design strategy.
- Lead and facilitate resolution of component issues and implement changes through change management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align E-Motor components with performance, safety, and quality standards.
- Manage DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report) and DFMEA (Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) documents.
- Ensure project milestones are met through effective coordination of tasks and resources.
- Utilize software tools (NX, Vis Mockup, Teamcenter) to create, visualize, and manage designs.
- Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles to improve product quality and reliability.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality components.
- Coordinate with manufacturing, testing, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of components.
- Stay informed on industry trends and technologies related to automotive electric drive systems.
- Lead benchmarking, cost/value analysis, and post-launch warranty issue resolution.
Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics (ABET-accredited).
- 7+ years of experience in automotive engineering, preferably with a focus on electrified vehicles.
- In-depth knowledge of E-Motors and Electric Drive Modules for EVs.
- Proficiency with Vis Mockup and Teamcenter for collaborative design and visualization.
- Familiarity with CAE tools and APQP processes.
- Strong experience in creating and managing DVP&R and DFMEA documentation.
- Proven project management skills and ability to meet critical program timelines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a team-focused mindset.
- Leadership skills in managing supplier relationships.
Preferred Experience: - E-Motor Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Assembly (DFA).
- Hands-on experience with E-Motor prototyping and production.
- Understanding of E-Motor subcomponents, design principles, operation, testing, and reliability.
- Knowledge of E-Motor cooling technologies and system integration.
