Position Specific Description

Client is seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to support for their Operations & Planning business units through strategic technology solutions and business process optimization. The ideal candidate will serve as a critical bridge between client operations/planning teams and IT, focusing on transmission system operations, planning workflows, regulatory compliance systems, and operational efficiency initiatives. You will work closely with transmission planners, operations engineers, and cross-functional teams to analyze business requirements, implement technology solutions, and drive process improvements that enhance client's operational excellence and planning capabilities. This role requires strong analytical skills, understanding of transmission operations, and the ability to translate complex operational requirements into effective IT solutions.

Employees in this role conduct complex business analysis for transmission operations and planning systems, lead medium to large technology implementation projects, and serve as strategic IT partners delivering solutions that support client's operational efficiency, planning processes, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Requirements Analysis: Gather, document, and validate business requirements from client operations and planning teams for transmission systems, operational tools, planning applications, and regulatory compliance platforms
  • Solution Design: Collaborate with IT teams to design technology solutions that meet client operations and planning business needs and regulatory requirements (NERC, FERC, state regulatory bodies)
  • Process Optimization: Analyze current client operational and planning workflows and recommend IT-driven process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce cycle times
  • System Integration: Support integration between client operational systems (SCADA, EMS), planning tools (PSSE, GridView, PROMOD), project management platforms, and enterprise systems
  • Project Leadership: Lead business analysis activities for IT implementations, system upgrades, and process improvement initiatives supporting transmission operations and planning functions
  • Data Analysis: Perform quantitative analysis to support client operational and planning decision-making and measure project success metrics
  • Stakeholder Management: Facilitate collaboration between client operations teams, planning engineers, IT, regulatory affairs, and external partners (RTOs, utilities, regulatory bodies)
  • Documentation: Create comprehensive business requirements documents, process flows, user stories, and acceptance criteria for IT solutions supporting client operations
  • Testing & Validation: Support user acceptance testing and ensure IT solutions meet client operational and planning business requirements
  • Training & Support: Assist with user training and change management for new IT system implementations within client operations and planning
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience: 4+ years in business analysis, preferably supporting utility operations, transmission planning, or energy sector IT initiatives
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with requirements gathering and documentation
  • Proficiency in process mapping and workflow analysis
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Understanding of project lifecycle management and IT implementation methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • Experience supporting transmission operations and planning business units through IT solutions
  • Knowledge of transmission planning applications (PSSE, GridView, PROMOD) and utility operational systems
  • Understanding of utility operations and transmission system planning processes
  • Experience with regulatory compliance (NERC, FERC) and transmission planning standards
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Power BI, Excel, SQL) and cloud platforms (AWS)
  • Experience with project management tools (MS Project, Jira) and Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Knowledge of transmission system engineering concepts and grid operations
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean) in utility environments
  • Strong presentation and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple operational and planning IT projects
  • Experience in IT business services supporting operational business units.
