Cloud Database Engineer

The Cloud Database Engineer architects designs and builds Cloud database solutions that balance the need for speed, flexibility, and security of database and supporting infrastructure. This role encompasses architecting, developing, building, administering, and deploying self-service tools that enable developers to build, deploy and operate cloud native applications. As a Cloud Database Engineer, you are a part of the cloud engineering team collaborating with cloud and application team members. This role requires the ability to synthesize ideas and the aptitude to define new database strategies in a global environment.

RESPONSIBILITES:
Database Design and Implementation: Design, develop, and implement cloud-based database solutions in collaboration with development teams. Create database schemas, tables, and indexes to support efficient data storage and retrieval.
Cloud Database Administration: Manage, monitor, and optimize cloud database instances to ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity. Configure and maintain database backups, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
Performance Tuning and Optimization: Identify and resolve database performance issues, including query optimization, index tuning, and resource utilization. Monitor database performance metrics and implement improvements to optimize performance.
Data Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain appropriate security measures and access controls to protect sensitive data stored in the cloud database. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and industry best practices.
Database Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor database activity and performance using database monitoring tools. Diagnose and resolve database-related issues and incidents, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution.
Database Capacity Planning: Estimate future database storage and performance requirements based on data growth projections. Plan and implement database capacity upgrades or scaling activities to accommodate evolving business needs.
Database Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain database automation scripts, workflows, and configurations using scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform). Implement DevOps practices for database deployment and management.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure teams, and stakeholders to understand database requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure effective integration with other systems. Communicate database-related updates, issues, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
Database Managed Service Provider: Leverage capabilities of managed service provider and ensure the delivery of those capabilities to deliver a stable and efficient database solutions.
Continuous Learning and Adaptation: Stay updated with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in cloud database technologies. Continuously enhance technical skills and knowledge to adapt to evolving cloud environments and emerging database technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology and/or equivalent industry experience.
5-7 years of Database experience
5-7 years of experience with any of the database management systems (MS SQL Server, No SQL, DB2 LUW, Oracle, PostgreSQL or MYSQL).
3-5 years of experience with cloud-based database technologies like Amazon AWS S3, RDS, Amazon Aurora. Knowledge of Microsoft Azure SQL Database is plus.
Experience working with large database projects.
1-3 years of experience in working large scale projects.
Should have knowledge of cloud computing concepts, virtualization, and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platforms.
Lead by Example: Build strong morale, team success, and positive feedback, and mentoring.
Willing to learn and adopt to Emerging Technology
Good knowledge of Project Management principals
Excellent verbal communication skills; Strong visual presentation skills
Flexibility to communicate effectively with various levels of Mgmt.
Ability to analyze critical information, assess upstream/downstream impact, and formulate broad recommendations
