Job Description: Thermal Engineer

Duration: Contract Role / W2 Position

Location:San jose CA (Onsite)

A thermal test engineer is primarily responsible for designing and conducting thermal tests on components or systems to evaluate their performance under various temperature conditions, analyzing the collected data, and ensuring that the design meets thermal requirements by identifying potential issues and proposing solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Comparing Thermal Simulations and Calculations: Predict the temperature behavior of components and systems under different operating conditions using tools like Flotherm or Ice Pack.
  • Designing and Documenting Thermal Test Plans: Include test parameters, instrumentation requirements, and data collection procedures.
  • Setting Up Thermal Test Equipment: Set up thermal test chambers, install sensors/thermocouples and instrumentation on test articles, and execute thermal tests according to established protocols, such as wind tunnel, acoustic, and Instron machines.
  • Monitoring Test Data: Record results and analyze thermal performance data to identify potential issues or areas for improvement.
  • Preparing Comprehensive Test Reports: Detail results, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations for design modifications.
  • Collaborating with Thermal Design Engineers: Identify thermal design challenges, propose solutions, and incorporate feedback into the design process.
  • Identifying and Resolving Technical Issues: Address unexpected temperature variations or malfunctioning instrumentation encountered during testing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Must have an Associate degree in engineering or equivalent background.
  • Skills: Team player with strong communication skills.
  • Software Knowledge: Knowledge in Microsoft applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is required.
  • Coding: Basic coding knowledge is desired but not necessary.
