Description

Churchill Consulting Engineers is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team in Berlin, NJ. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of industry experience in structural engineering, particularly in bridge and transportation-related structures. A Professional Engineer (PE) license in NJ or the ability to obtain a NJ license within 6 months of hire is required. Candidate should have experience using structural analysis software such as Bentley LARS Bridge, AASHTOWare BrR or BrD, Bentley Leap Bridge Concrete, PennDOT design software.

Experience with CADD programs such as AutoCAD Civil3D and MicroStation is also preferred. Experience with design and plan production within MicroStation is preferred.

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This role also involves mentoring, training and reviewing work of junior engineering staff to provide constructive feedback in addition to assisting in the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline, and assist with proposal generation. Key Responsibilities
  1. Structural Design & Analysis: Lead structural calculations and design of bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structures following NJTA, NJDOT and AASHTO standards.
  2. Project Coordination: Work closely with project managers, clients, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure projects meet design specifications, regulatory requirements, schedule and budget.
  3. Structural Inspections & Assessments: Conduct field inspections, prepare condition evaluation reports, and recommend rehabilitation or replacement strategies.
  4. Plan Development & Software Utilization: Lead the development of detailed design plans using CADD software, with preference for MicroStation, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with NJTA and NJDOT standards.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs and project documentation comply with federal, state, and local guidelines, including NJTA, NJDOT and AASHTO regulations.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 8+ years of industry experience in structural engineering, with a focus on bridges and transportation infrastructure.
  • Certification: PE required
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MicroStation (preferred) or other CAD software used for structural design and drafting.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD design standards, familiarity with NJTA and NJDOT standards, structural analysis software (e.g., Bentley LARS Bridge, AASHTOWare BrR or BrD, Bentley Leap Bridge Concrete, PennDOT Programs), and bridge load rating methodologies.
