Job Description:
Job Title: Programmer - Consultant (Micro Focus Visual COBOL)

Location: 10311 Wilson Rd, Blythewood, SC 29016

Work Arrangement: Onsite initially, then Hybrid (Priority to SC, GA, NC candidates)

Contract Duration: 12 months (with potential for extension)

About the Role:

A government agency is seeking a highly skilled Programmer Consultant to support and enhance its core business systems. This role involves working within a multi-tiered architecture that includes Micro Focus Visual COBOL, .NET applications, and Oracle/MS SQL databases.

You will be responsible for developing new business functions, troubleshooting and enhancing existing applications, and supporting production systems. This is a long-term opportunity with the potential for renewal and hybrid work flexibility after the initial onsite engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and support Phoenix II, web services, and batch applications.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and resolve system issues.
  • Design, code, test, and promote solutions in collaboration with business users.
  • Provide regular status updates to the Development Manager.
  • Work closely with UI and database tiers to ensure seamless integration.
Required Skills:
  • Strong experience with Micro Focus Visual COBOL development.
Preferred Skills:
  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries (Oracle and MS SQL).
  • Experience with Windows Server 2019/2022, IIS, and batch processing.
  • Development using Visual Studio 2019/2022, including debugging.
  • Application programming against RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server).
Certifications:
  • Not required, but Microsoft technical certifications are a plus.
  • Micro Focus certifications are a significant advantage.
