Position: Lab Engineer
Duration: 7 Months contract role
Location: Onsite, 5 dayz a week Austin, TX


Rate Range: $30-$35/hr.

About the Role:



  • We re seeking a Lab Engineer to support testing and lab operations for an advanced line of smart hardware and connected devices.

  • This individual will execute manual and automated test cases on prototype devices, perform log analysis, and collaborate with internal development teams to identify and resolve issues.

  • This is a hands-on position requiring strong technical troubleshooting, scripting, and lab management skill.

  • You ll be responsible for maintaining lab infrastructure, ensuring equipment functionality, and supporting automation initiatives to streamline testing processes.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Execute manual and automated test cases on prototype devices.
    Run debug tools, collect and analyze logs, and identify system issues.

  • Onboard and configure new devices into test infrastructure and automation setups.
    Write and modify Bash/Shell scripts to automate test execution, device setup, and log collection.

  • Execute Python scripts in Linux environments to debug, validate, and interact with APIs.

  • Maintain and organize lab hardware labeling, documentation, compliance, and upkeep.

  • Support automation readiness and process scripting initiatives.
    Collaborate across teams, participate in sprint cycles, and track tasks using Jira.


Must-Have Qualifications:



  • 2 4+ years of experience as a Lab Engineer working with hardware devices.

  • Proven experience in lab organization, hardware tracking, documentation, and compliance.
    Strong proficiency with Linux Command Line for testing and troubleshooting.

  • 2 4+ years of hands-on experience in Bash/Shell scripting and hardware automation.

  • 1+ year of experience running and debugging Python scripts in Linux environments.

  • Experience using Jira for issue and task management.
    Strong understanding of Unix/Linux systems.


Nice-to-Have Skill:



  • Familiarity with smart speaker or connected device testing.

  • Experience with black-box and gray-box testing methodologies.

  • Exposure to QA tools and short release cycle environments.
