Role: Director, Learning & Development
Location: Remote - USA
Position Summary
As Director, Learning & Development you will shape and lead our Leadership Development strategy. You'll ensure our leaders-today and tomorrow-possess the critical skills for success. This is an exciting time: leveraging current momentum and new technologies, we aim to deliver development programs that are genuinely transformational.
What You'll Do
You will be accountable for:
- Strategic Leadership Development: Define, evolve, and execute the leadership development strategy aligned with business goals. Assess emerging trends, adult learning theories, and frameworks to inform the strategy.
- Program Design & Evaluation: Oversee design, implementation, and measurement of large-scale leadership development programs. Ensure robust evaluation of approaches, learning outcomes, and business impact.
- Stakeholder Management: Act as a trusted partner to senior executives. Build relationships, understand leadership needs at multiple levels, and ensure feedback is embedded in program design.
- Learning Delivery & Content Oversight: Oversee both digital and physical learning materials. Ensure content quality, brand alignment, scalability, and appropriate delivery formats.
- Project & Portfolio Management: Manage multiple workstreams; define timelines, resources, budgets. Monitor status, address roadblocks, and keep senior leadership informed.
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, develop high-performing teams. Foster capabilities in content creation, instructional design, and delivery.
- Talent & Succession Planning: Diagnose capability gaps among leaders; foster internal talent; establish succession plans. Champion continuous learning.
- Culture & Values Championing: Integrate Walmart values (Integrity, Customer focus, Excellence, etc.) into all leadership development activities. Promote ethical behaviour, inclusion, respect, and accountability.
What You'll Bring (Qualifications & Experience)
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in large-scale leadership development programs.
- Deep understanding of adult learning theory, instructional design, and evaluation frameworks.
- Proven track record engaging with senior stakeholders and influencing at executive levels.
- Strong project management skills managing large, multi stream initiatives concurrently.
- Ability to analyze program data, translate to insights, and drive improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, HR, Education, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Learning & Development, Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, or related fields.
- Experience leading cross functional teams.
- Certifications such as PMP, Six Sigma, or equivalents in Learning & Development.
- Experience in digital learning/technology platforms and tools.
