The Role
The Materials Cost Knowledge Management Specialist at General Motors develops and maintains raw materials cost standards for the PPCO team's estimations. These standards align with market trends and suppliers to achieve optimal material costs.
The role involves extensive research and creative master data development, guiding materials engineering and purchasing teams to reduce complexity and consolidate cost-effective solutions. Acting as a liaison, the specialist creates proactive processes to manage material costs, engaging early in the material release timeline.
Candidates need a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, material specifications, and experience in statistical and data analytics methodologies. Collaboration with internal teams and external software suppliers is essential, requiring effective relationships with IT, cost estimation, and value chain engineering teams.

Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in automotive cost estimating, manufacturing, product design/engineering, purchasing, materials engineering or related.
- Ability to analyze and organize large amounts of data.
- Experience with MS Excel.
- Strong understanding of production processes, suppliers' cost structures, and cost modeling.
- Awareness of raw material industry trends.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects autonomously.
- Skills to lead change, resolve conflicts, and influence without direct authority.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in analytical and business intelligence tools.
