JOB DESCRIPTION:

Title: Lead Appian Developer

Duration: 6 months temp to hire

Location: Onsite in McLean, VA or Plano, TX

About the Role:

Seeking a highly experienced and technically sound Lead Appian Developer to join our team. This role involves leading the design, development, and implementation of internal applications built on the Appian platform, with a strong emphasis on integration, automation, and scalable architecture. The selected candidate will play a key role in guiding junior developers, driving application architecture, and supporting infrastructure modernization efforts especially as the team evaluates Kubernetes-based deployment models for Appian Cloud.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, architecture, and development of Appian applications supporting functions such as internal audit, finance, etc.
• Mentor and guide a team of 7+ developers; act as the primary technical lead.
• Create architecture diagrams, design integrations, and lead discussions on security and network design.
• Work closely with stakeholders to assess new integration requirements with systems such as Active Directory, Snowflake, Dremio, etc.
• Evaluate Kubernetes-based infrastructure for Appian and contribute to its implementation strategy.
• Manage and troubleshoot Java-based Appian plugin development.
• Support after-hours weekly releases and be on-call during production weekends (rotational).
• Collaborate across teams to ensure successful CI/CD pipeline deployments and compliance with DevOps best practices.

Must-Have Qualifications:

• 10+ years of overall IT experience with proven leadership in software development teams.
• 7+ years of hands-on Appian design, development, and configuration experience with recent versions (2017 2024).
• 5+ years of Core Java development experience, including Appian plugin development.
• 5+ years using CI/CD tools and deployment pipelines (Jenkins, Bamboo, Atlassian Suite).
• 5+ years of experience with APIs, databases (DB2, Sybase, PostgreSQL, MS SQL), and integrations with enterprise platforms (Active Directory, Ping, Snowflake).
• 3+ years of experience creating application architecture, security recommendations, and integration strategies.
• 3+ years of experience with Angular, JavaScript, and Ansible.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure, security models, and Kubernetes, with familiarity in AWS or Appian Cloud environments.
• Experience working on automation scripts using Ansible/Python.
• Ability to participate in whiteboard-style coding exercises as part of the interview process.

Nice-to-Have:

• Appian Certifications.
• Exposure to Dremio and other data virtualization platforms.
• Experience with Appian Cloud monitoring and debugging.
• Familiarity with Snowflake integration within BPM systems.
