Technical Designer - Intimates & Apparel (Onsite Role) Role Overview
Location: Manhattan, NY Onsite (4-5 days/week)
Duration: 2+ Months Contract with possible extension.
Pay Range: $35-$41.38/H on W2.
This role is responsible for executing the full technical design process for intimate apparel and related product categories from initial development through final fit approval. The Technical Designer will analyze garment construction, evaluate fit, ensure product quality standards, and communicate technical specifications to factories and vendors. This individual will contribute to maintaining fit consistency, cost-effectiveness, and design integrity across all assigned styles.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage fittings for intimate/apparel products; evaluate garment construction, balance, and fit.
- Develop, update, and maintain accurate technical packages including specs, measurements, patterns, grade rules, and construction details.
- Create detailed, professional fit comments, including correction notes and clear direction to vendors.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (design, product development, production, and vendors) to achieve desired fit and aesthetic for each garment.
- Review, troubleshoot, and correct patterns and samples based on fit sessions and feedback.
- Ensure products meet established quality standards, manufacturing capabilities, and target cost parameters.
- Oversee the technical development process from proto to TOP, ensuring timely approvals.
- Maintain consistency across styles, ensuring fit blocks and specifications are followed.
- Provide guidance to Assistant or Associate Technical Designers as needed.
- Bachelor s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or related field or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Experience specializing in intimates and/or apparel (bras, panties, sleepwear, loungewear, etc.).
- Prior work owning or co-owning fittings, including leading fit sessions independently.
- Ability to write clear, detailed fit comments with actionable corrections.
- Strong understanding of patternmaking, grading, garment construction, and fabric behavior.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Excel, Illustrator, Flex PLM, and Centric PLM.
- Excellent communication and vendor management skills.
- Experience creating pattern corrections independently.
- Background working with global factories and vendors.
- Strong collaboration skills with product development and design teams.
