Job Description
DUTIES: Work with simultaneous die engineers (or SDEs, processing engineers); design studio, product engineers, manufacturing engineers, and program management to provide manufacturing driven product input to develop balanced integrated systems design for future program launches. Process a new product design for early manufacturing feasibility studies. Provide manufacturing input and engineering criteria to Styling & Product Engineering to develop balanced integrated closure system designs. Develop preliminary dieface layout and run formability analysis. Run iterations to optimize manufacturing conditions and identify manufacturability concerns. Propose solutions in resolving manufacturing related issues (splits, wrinkles, surface defects, skid lines, material utilization, press handling, and throughput) while product design in progress. Support Manufacturing Systems Integration Engineers (MSIEs) and SDEs in program health checks, stamping strategy reviews, and deviation requests. Develop and lead material utilization initiatives for closure parts, including wave blank implementation and offal integration for applicable parts. Review and resolve manufacturability requirements with Product Development (DFM). Prepare handoff documents and math data of manufacturing product releases to production die sources. Support GM global formability activities and projects. 10% domestic travel required. Hybrid Work Policy - 3 days In-office, 2 days remote - Must be able to report to local office.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Material Engineering, or related field of study and 10 years of experience as a Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or related role. Ten years of experience with: Assessing new product designs for early manufacturing feasibility including die tips and panel transfer through press line utilizing NX CAD system, Vis Mockup and Siemens TeamCenter; Providing manufacturing input and engineering criteria to studio and product engineering to develop formable panel; Creating preliminary dieface layout and run formability analysis to identify formability concerns utilizing Autoform formability software; Proposing solutions in resolving manufacturing related issues (splits, wrinkles, surface defects, skid lines, material utilization, press handling, and throughput) while product design in progress; Representing Die Engineering in Product Design Team reviews, program health checks, stamping strategy reviews, and deviation requests; and Accessing and navigating AUROS knowledge software to locate specific Manufacturing Requirements (MRs) and to report out specific program milestones and a MR adherence.
