Payloads Senior Engineering Manager

The Boeing Company is seeking a Payloads Senior Engineering Manager (Level L) to join the 787 Interiors Engineering IPT based in Everett, Washington.

This Senior Manager role is responsible for strategy development, supplier management oversight, and program management of 787 Interior Buyer Furnished Equipment (BFE) and Seller Furnished Equipment (SFE) monuments as well as 787 Cabin Lighting. The 787 Interiors Monuments and Lighting Senior Manager partners with senior and first-line managers from diverse disciplines; including Systems, Airframe, Stress, Cabin Systems, Supplier Management, Service Engineering, and the Fleet Chief Office-to ensure engineering commitments are met, risks and opportunities are effectively managed, and a culture of continuous improvement is fostered. Key responsibilities include championing engineering excellence and innovation, as well as supporting critical skills development and succession planning. This position requires strong capability in managing complex technical issues and prioritizing multiple competing program objectives. The role also involves some domestic and international travel.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Manages, develops, and motivates employees and first-level managers performing engineering and technical activities in Mechanical & Structural Engineering.
  • Keeps safety and quality at the forefront of all activities.
  • Utilizes broad Interiors domain knowledge and experience to solve complex problems and effectively manage ambiguity, including dynamic program schedules.
  • Applies creativity and innovative thinking to develop solutions that meet customer and Boeing needs.
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risks early by leveraging program management best practices.
  • Skilled in advising and influencing managers and non-management employees to meet schedules, manage overall performance, and resolve technical or operational problems.
  • Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance standards.
  • Participates in establishing and administering multiple projects.
  • Develops and executes integrated departmental plans, policies, and procedures, and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, and objectives.
  • Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers, and leads process improvements.
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited course of study.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Manager leading engineering teams.
  • 5+ years of experience working with suppliers and external engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
  • Experience with aircraft interiors engineering.
  • Experience with the 787 airplane program.
  • Experience working with suppliers on technically demanding projects.
  • Experience working across the value stream including design, supplier production, airplane production, and fleet support.
  • Understanding of certification processes and requirements.
  • Ability to manage both customer intro and airplane non-recurring statement of work at the same time.
  • Proficient at solving complex problems and dealing with ambiguity including dynamic program schedules.
  • Driven to proactively identify and mitigate risk early - leverage program management best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for motivating and inspiring others to achieve their best by promoting a culture of seeking feedback, open communication, and active listening.
  • Demonstrated ability in team building, coaching, and employee development to enhance team performance and engagement.

Summary Pay Range: $170,000 - $230,000
