Description & Requirements
Instant Bloomberg (IB) is Bloomberg's instant messaging system, which is used by the Bloomberg community for real-time communication including exchanging quotes, trade ideas, news and other financial information. Our users rely on IB because of its stability, real-time performance and tight integration with many applications on the Bloomberg Terminal, which makes IB a vital part of their day-to-day financial workflows.
IB is the primary instant communication tool for financial industry Terminal clients. To enhance user experience, IB is committed to providing seamless workflows for client interactions within IB, the Terminal, and their internal systems.
To achieve this, the IB App framework team offers a suite of frameworks and services that enable other Bloomberg teams to integrate with IB or utilize IB data. We focus on structured content within IB, which helps users engage in more contextual conversations and easily connect to their automated workflows.
Importantly, we are not just builders-we're also consumers of the framework. Our team uses it to structure trade negotiations within IB, powering workflows for client-facing products. This direct exposure allows us to receive immediate user feedback, helping us iterate quickly and refine both the framework and the features built on top of it.
What we are working on:
- Pills and Plugins Framework: These frameworks offer a secure way for teams to integrate with IB. They enhance chat context in IB, eliminating the need to switch between applications and improving workflows for key conversation types by leveraging the Terminal's capabilities.
- Structured Pricing Workflow: Recognizing that traders currently negotiate via text in IB, we aim to add structure to these negotiations. This enables end-to-end workflows that integrate with systems or are initiated by end-users.
Our team uses data to drive decision-making, whether it be to decide between feature implementations, to motivate engineering-led product proposals, or to plan sprints. A strong candidate will take an empirical approach to software development, formulating and validating hypotheses using data such as performance statistics, end-user usage metrics or capacity limits.
