Job Description
The Role:
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for Application Operations support and Application Ownership activities. Leveraging the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) model, this individual will ensure proper application monitoring, proactively eliminate toil, and resolve issues within defined service level objectives (SLOs). The role also involves close collaboration with business stakeholders to fulfill application-related requests and deliver reliable, high-quality services.
Many of the supported applications are located within GM Vehicle & Propulsion sites and managed remotely, in addition to applications in GM's central datacenters and in the cloud. This roll provides the opportunity to work across multiple environments, including Linux, Windows, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms and multiple databases including Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
The Systems Engineer will be expected to navigate these environments to perform queries, implement configuration changes, and troubleshoot application issues. As an application owner, the engineer will also manage certificates, maintain process documentation, oversee application health, and sustain strong relationships with business and technical teams. Together with the business, development, and deployment teams this team ensures efficient order management, data collection, and quality management for GM Vehicle and Powertrain plants.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Support GM applications used in the assembly and propulsion sites.
- Utilize your experience and problem solving capabilities to delight our customers by quickly resolving issues and meeting agreed upon SLAs.
- Design and implement configuration changes requested by the customer to support their business.
- Oversee end to end availability of all application and infrastructure components.
- Support the business during critical periods and non-traditional working hours (production issue resolution, code deployments and patch release support).
- Collaborate with other IT teams to perform root cause analysis for production errors.
- Design procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Develop strong and productive relationships with business partners, colleagues and management.
- Ensure all activities are managed per company IT methodology and processes.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- The position will require remote support of GM Manufacturing sites.
- The supported application is used to provide production critical information regarding plant floor operations.
- After an acclimation period, the position will become a part of a rotation of 24x7 on-call team.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- 3+ years' experience in technical IT function
- 3+ years' experience with Linux and/or Windows Operating Systems
- Experience with Oracle and/or SQL Databases
- Knowledge of Containers (Docker) and Container Orchestration (Kubernetes)
People Skills:
- Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and focus on data integrity and accuracy
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing work items appropriately
