About Stanford University's Hoover Institution: The Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace is a public policy research center devoted to the advanced study of economics, politics, history, and political economy-both domestic and foreign-as well as international affairs.

JOB PURPOSE:
The Digital Access Applications Engineer supports and maintains server-based applications and associated workflows critical to the digitization and discovery of Hoover's digital collections. This position provides hands-on support for application configuration, troubleshooting, user onboarding, and development to ensure the smooth and reliable operation of platforms such as ArchivesSpace, Libsafe, and other digitization tools.
They serve as the primary support resource for digitization-related applications and workflows, collaborating with staff across departments to understand needs, resolve issues, and improve processes. The engineer also contributes to the planning and implementation of system updates, integrations, and enhancements, occasionally coordinating tasks within small collaborative projects or supporting larger initiatives.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $124,870 to $155,346 per annum. if hybrid.
The expected pay range for this position is $97,290 to $129,655 per annum. if remote.

CORE DUTIES*:
- Act as single point of contact between external support providers and stakeholders.
- Perform necessary business and system analysis to gather all pertinent data related to issues in production system, patches, upgrades, and enhancements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and identify gaps between requirements and the application.
- Assist stakeholders with determining deliverables, creating system test plans, identifying test scenarios, managing user acceptance testing, and conducting production roll out of resolution.
- Collaborate with support providers and IT resources on application specifications and system enhancements to ensure appropriateness of design and delivering resolution of issues; partner with and coordinate stakeholders to test and deploy resolutions and enhancements in a timely manner.
- Assist with initial determination of the feasibility of requests and ensure user requirements are thoroughly and accurately documented in accordance with standard techniques.
- Interact with team members, the user community and others on an ongoing basis to ensure accurate identification and delivery of business requirements.
- Make formal recommendations, and write application specifications, including conversion, upgrade and interface routines.
- Develop functional specifications to ensure compliance with system development lifecycle methods.
- Team up with business partners and developers to set realistic response time and/or deliverable expectations.
- Manage the implementation of the approved development in partnership with developers and business partners.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong capabilities in the following: data mapping, conversion, table structure knowledge, running and analyzing traces, configuration settings, page customizations, security updates, custom coding logics, issues analysis and recommendations, running SQL queries, documentation skills, test scripts development, functional analysis, coordination of user acceptance and sign-off, business process improvement, fit/gap analysis, requirements documentation and process flow charting, presentation of options and solutions facilitation.
- Strong understanding of the components of web applications.
- Strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with minimum direction.
- Ability to establish effective, ongoing relationships with clients, staff and management.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and work under pressure in high stress situations.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues across platforms, including permissions, data integration, and system behavior
- Familiarity with metadata standards relevant to digital archives (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS), and how they map across systems
- Skill in writing lightweight scripts (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate tasks or enhance system workflows
- Experience gathering user requirements and translating them into system or workflow improvements
- Demonstrated commitment to improving usability, discovery, and sustainability of digital content systems
- Experience with digital preservation platforms (e.g., Libsafe, Archivematica, Rosetta)
- Experience with fixity validation, checksums (SHA-256, MD5), and file integrity monitoring
- Ability to design and execute metadata transformation workflows (e.g., XSLT,OpenRefine)
