Job Description
Engineering CO-OP opportunity is at our research division (Kratos SRE) located in Birmingham, AL. The CO-OP requires a 3-semester commitment - rotating working a semester then returning to school for a semester.
This posting is for 2 CO-OPs, one starting in Fall 2025 and one starting Summer 2026. The rotations would be as follows:
Rotation 1 - Fall 2025 2024; Rotation 2 - Summer 2026; and Rotation 3 - Spring 2027
Rotation 1 - Spring 2026; Rotation 2 - Fall 2026; and Rotation 3 - Summer 2027
COOPs support a department of engineers in test preparation and execution, data analysis, and data presentation. Students will also work in close cooperation with a variety of engineers, as well as laboratory and machine shop personnel, in order to accomplish tasks vital to the success of projects. Depending on the team assigned responsibilities may include:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assessment of aerospace composites, ceramics, and alloys
- Design of test hardware using solid modeling software.
- Test preparation including drawings, text requests, and documentation.
- Data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Laboratory test method development.
- SOLIDWORKS design and modifications.
- 3D printing support
- Additive Manufacturing support
- Prototyping support as well as computer programming and hardware integration activities.
- Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned.
Experience and Skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications
- U. S. Citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
- Completed freshman year in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics or other related field.
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work well with others in a dynamic environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated to continually expand knowledge and skills related to this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed sophomore year in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or another related field.
- Programming experience
- Experience with additive manufacturing/3D printing
- Completed physics I, calculus I, and mechanics of materials
