Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer III to join our team in Mountain View, California. This role is a critical contributor to the design of advanced sensing systems that power the next generation of mapping technologies. The position involves creating accurate and robust systems that operate in challenging environments while meeting diverse operational requirements. The role offers a unique opportunity to make significant contributions to a variety of complex products and collaborate with multiple stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the mechanical lead for complex systems, providing critical high-level system design input in collaboration with other functional experts.
  • Leverage expertise in manufacturing techniques, materials, and simulation to develop optimal solutions for complex requirements.
  • Develop detailed 3D models of mechanical systems, including optomechanics, structures, materials, analysis, and tolerances.
  • Document hardware design, implementation, and test/validation results throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Perform failure analysis, design and direct validation tests, and lead strategic investments in tooling and technology to address future challenges.
  • Utilize tools such as FEA to predict the performance and reliability of mechanical components and systems under harsh environmental conditions and stresses.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including requirements, 2D and 3D drawings, textual design documentation, system specifications, bills of materials, test plans and reports, and assembly standard operating procedures.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience working in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, sheet metal, welding, injection molding, casting, composites, and additive manufacturing.
  • Expertise in engineering materials such as metals, polymers, adhesives, lubricants, composites, and ceramics, particularly for use in challenging operating environments.
  • Proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and CAD modeling/drawing best practices, with a focus on high-quality deliverables.
  • Experience with opto-mechanics and computation-based analysis tools for mechanical systems, including FEA and CFD.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and their impact on the product lifecycle.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide proactive updates, generate reports, and conduct presentations to summarize analyses and decisions.
  • Ability to generate clear, concise, and complete Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).

Pay Range: $90 - $100

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
