Collins Aerospace is seeking a Mechanical Test Engineer II to join our team Onsite in Fairfield, CA! In this role, you'll have the opportunity to support Destructive and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) on advanced energetic devices, ensuring our products meet and exceed stringent customer performance requirements.
As a Test Engineer II, you will take ownership of designing test equipment, instrumentation, and processes, playing a crucial role in the success of our testing operations. You'll also apply Continuous Improvement (CI) principles to streamline processes, reduce lead times, and improve overall quality, driving greater efficiency and reliability in testing.
A key part of your responsibility will be troubleshooting and resolving work stoppages, implementing permanent and timely solutions to keep testing on schedule. You'll ensure the safe and reliable operation of test equipment and fixtures, maintaining high standards of safety and performance in a fast-paced environment.

The salary range for this role is 72,000 USD - 144,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. What You Will Do
- Design, Develop, and Validate Test Fixtures for performance testing
- Create 3D CAD models and 2D detail drawings of tooling, fixtures, and equipment
- Write Test Procedures, Standards, and Operation Manuals
- Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine testing requirements
- Preform Post Process Data Analysis to Validate test Performance
- Design and implement test setups, instrumentation and firing systems
- Create equipment specifications, scopes of work, and validation plans
- Analyze project cost/benefit and write cost justification for management review
- Plan and execute tasks using project management tools
- Train direct labor employees on testing processes and equipment
- Specify, procure and maintain instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Create and Maintain testing Bill of Materials
- Lead kaizen events to identify and eliminate waste
- Willingness to travel to external test sites as needed (up to 5%)
- All other duties as required.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) access.
Qualifications We Prefer
- A BS or MS degree in electrical, mechatronic, or mechanical engineering or related discipline
- Experience developing test processes
- Energetic Destructive Testing Experience
- Experience working with Matlab or other analysis software
- Experience working with data acquisition systems
- 3-5 years of participating in PSM and Process Hazard Analysis
