About the Role
We are hiring a Transport Optical Engineer to support the design and deployment of optical transport systems for a well-known national Internet Service Provider (ISP). This is a fully remote position focused on assisting field technicians with headend and central office deployments across the Northeast U.S., with a strong preference for candidates familiar with the north eastern market.

About the Role
We are hiring a Transport Optical Engineer to support the design and deployment of optical transport systems for a well-known national Internet Service Provider (ISP). This is a fully remote position focused on assisting field technicians with headend and central office deployments across the Northeast U.S., with a strong preference for candidates familiar with the north eastern market.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide remote technical support to ISP field technicians during installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Nokia 1830 and Ciena optical transport equipment.
- Design and document headend optical layouts, including DWDM, OTN, and ROADM configurations.
- Assist with remote equipment turn-up, fiber validation, and performance testing.
- Analyze link budgets, OSNR, and dispersion metrics to ensure optimal performance.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal teams for hardware/software integration and upgrades.
- Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations and deployment procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in telecommunications, specifically in optical transport or ISP network deployment.
- Hands-on experience with Nokia 1830 PSS and Ciena platforms (e.g., 6500 series).
- Proficiency with DWDM, OTN, and ROADM technologies.
- Strong understanding of fiber optics, splicing, and remote testing tools (OTDR, OSA, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to guide field teams remotely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting headend or central office environments.
- Familiarity with Layer 1-2 networking and transport protocols.
- Certifications such as FOA CFOT, MEF-CECP, Nokia ONC, or Ciena Certified Professional.
- Basic scripting or automation skills (Python, Ansible) a plus.
