POSITION SUMMARY

Primary responsibility is to take the lead or support role in coordination with the Project Engineer in designing mechanical/HVAC/plumbing/fire protection systems for various clients in the various markets within their design team. In some cases, there will be a requirement to sign and seal the drawings on projects where they are the Engineer of Record on the project. Coordinate and work with the design team within your discipline and work with the client/PM/Project Engineer to execute project objectives in a timely and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design energy efficient HVAC systems and mechanical systems per client requirements.
  • For some projects, perform as the Engineer of Record signing and sealing drawings for projects under your direction and supervision.
  • Conduct load calculations analysis and energy modeling using programs such as eQUEST, Trane Trace, ENERGY STAR and/or Carrier HAP.
  • Review projects regularly to ensure departmental standards and requirements are consistent with client requirements and the project budget. Using Revit, perform design, layout, and checking of mechanical and HVAC drawings and ensure the technical correctness of the drawings by using the applicable job, federal, state and local standards and codes.
  • Provide direction to less experienced Engineers in Training when working together with them on projects.
  • Perform site surveys, attend pre-bid meetings and provide field construction support, as required.
  • Implement training development, in conjunction with Project Engineer, other engineers, designers and draftspersons as assigned to your projects.
  • Assist the PM/Project Engineer in proposal development, client management and overall project execution.

REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Must be knowledgeable of local, state and national code requirements.
  • Must have experience/working knowledge of load analysis and energy modeling programs such as eQUEST, Trane Trace, ENERGY STAR and/or Carrier HAP.
  • Strong working knowledge and utilization of Revit; AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Knowledgeable of the USGBC LEED Rating system and standards is a plus.
  • Must be a good time manager, comfortable with frequent deadlines and transitions.
  • Effective at working with other staff members in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate complex ideas and have strong technical writing skills and technical documentation skills with the ability to prepare presentations and reports.
  • Able to read, write, speak and understand English

MINIMUM Education & Experience

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years professional experience with proven progression in Mechanical/HVAC design with an emphasis on sustainable/green building.
  • Experience in executing a design project with Revit
  • Experience implementing Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred but at minimum should be working towards licensure.
