This is a front line engineering position in the Waterfront Engineering Directorate requiring the selected candidates to frequently interface with trades personnel in an active construction environment troubleshooting complex fabrication, assembly and major move activities. This position will require that the engineer develop build strategies, methods, and fixtures for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, systems, and modules.
Primary responsibilities will be the identification and development of methods and tools required by the shipbuilder. Duties include development of details and designs for tools and fixtures, preparation of Manufacturing Engineering procedures for sequence and alignment of critical installations, and deckplate construction support. Work scope will focus on VIRGINIA Class, Overhaul and Repair, and COLUMBIA Class construction.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of structural/mechanical design, materials, weld design and bolted joints.
Daily interaction with manufacturing and planning representatives from Groton, Quonset Point, Newport News, designers, and vendors is expected. Local travel between Groton and Quonset Point is required.
This 2nd shift position is located in the Groton shipyard as part of D476 Manufacturing Engineering.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Marine, or equivalent engineering degree
- 0-4 years engineering experience
- This is a 2nd shift position
- Construction support experience
- 1+ years of engineering experience
- Master's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Marine engineering
