Description
SAIC is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Chief Engineer for the MK 48 Heavyweight Torpedo Production program effort in Middletown, RI. Prospective candidates must demonstrate the ability to quickly grasp the theory of operation of large, complex systems and have a history of diagnosing system problems using techniques such as root cause analysis. Additionally, candidates will have strong leadership and mentorship skills to build a proficient technical team to address program challenges. A successful candidate will have strong technical presentation skills with the ability to speak to multiple audiences including highly technical and non-technical members of SAIC, subcontractors, vendors, and program stakeholders.

Description

A successful candidate will have strong technical presentation skills with the ability to speak to multiple audiences including highly technical and non-technical members of SAIC, subcontractors, vendors, and program stakeholders.
Specific roles and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following :
- Provide direct support to the program management office (PMO) team, engineering staff, executive leadership, and the customer on technical issues.
- Seek guidance from, coordinate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and prepare variance documentation as required to address Technical Data Package (TDP), manufacturing or obsolescence related issues.
- Build and maintain a dialogue with government production and technical authorities to resolve programmatic technical issues through a collaborative and transparent working environment at all levels.
- Support vendor and sub-contractor efforts, including variance and Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) processes, to gain government approval, and review procurement actions to ensure vendors are qualified, responsive, and understand the nuances of the product, while addressing and resolving their questions or concerns.
- Propose studies or technical instruction tasks to improve the operation or ease of manufacture of MK 48 subsystems.
- Provide comprehensive familiarization training to engineering and manufacturing teams on hardware. functions, interfaces, critical features, and failure analysis to ensure consistent understanding and high-quality performance.
- Review and approve technical deliverables to the government for accuracy, clarity, and final acceptance.
- Lead efforts to resolve performance issues encountered in manufacturing, factory acceptance testing. Government acceptance testing, or in-service operations.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering and eighteen (18) years of experience; Master's degree in engineering and (16) years of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance is mandatory.
- Highly motivated with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills including the ability to lead technical work in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills to work multiple tasks concurrently with variable priorities.
- Leadership/mentorship skills to develop junior engineers at SAIC.
- Ability to complete work in an unsupervised and self-directed fashion while managing multiple tasks concurrently despite changing deadlines and priorities.
