Our client, a leader in the travel & hospitality industry, is seeking an intermediate Database Administrator skilled across both Microsoft SQL and MySQL to provide hands-on support for their growing data environment. This is a production-facing role focused on ensuring database performance, availability, and security across mission-critical systems.

Note this role can support remote, but candidate location preferences are ranked as follows:

  1. Local to the Phoenix valley and able to occassionally come into office
  2. Full remote in MST timezone
  3. Full remote anywhere in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Support daily DBA operations including monitoring, backups, restores, and troubleshooting.

  • Manage and maintain SQL Server and MySQL environments, ensuring uptime and reliability.

  • Implement and support HA/DR solutions (clustering, Always On, replication, log shipping).

  • Apply and maintain encryption standards (TDE on SQL Server, table-level encryption on MySQL).

  • Handle transactional jobs, service tickets, and change requests in production.

  • Partner with developers and application admins to optimize code, queries, and deployments.

  • Participate in data migrations and assist with warehouse/reporting workloads.

  • Contribute to database security, compliance, and performance tuning efforts.


Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on DBA experience in production environments.

  • Strong expertise in SQL Server (2016–2019+) and MySQL administration.

  • Experience with HA/DR: clustering, replication, log shipping, Always On.

  • Proficiency with encryption (TDE, Always Encrypted, table-level).

  • Solid background in backups, recovery strategies, and monitoring tools.

  • Strong query tuning and optimization skills.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving ability in high-availability environments.


Nice to Have

  • Exposure to NoSQL technologies (Couchbase preferred).

  • Familiarity with BI/reporting (SSRS, ETL workflows).

  • Prior work in travel, hospitality, or consumer-facing industries.
