DESCRIPTION OF POSITION/DUTIES:

The successful candidate will provide expertise and facilitate the export activities of NASA/JSC’s Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) in support of all activities with Foreign Nationals. Ideal candidate will be an engineer with export control regulation experience. The candidate will perform the following tasks in support of the Center Export Administrator (CEA) and the designated FOD Export Control Lead and Export Control Representatives (ECRs)

  • Process data from NASA programs, projects, and activities (including Commercial activities) that is required for export license applications and coordinate the use of exemptions and exceptions with the CEA
  • Interpret export control policies and processes and provide recommendations regarding the issues and interpretation of the regulations
  • Develop curriculum and conduct Export Control training
  • Assist with the ECR review of documents/products, websites, and technology, and provide recommendations regarding their release and public disclosure
  • Support FOD Foreign National Access Management (FNAM) activities, including providing recommendations regarding issues involving badge requests for Foreign Nationals
  • Provide status reports


Candidate will be in an on-call rotation that may occur during off-nominal schedule during Artemis or Moon2Mars missions. The work is performed at the Johnson Space Center with telework approval based on FOD business guidelines, currently Monday’s and Fridays.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering or Physics from an ABET accredited school

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+

SKILLS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with export licensing as well as exceptions and exemptions. 
  • Strong working knowledge of NASA missions and processes, especially exposure to export activities such as licensing and classification of spaceflight assets (hardware, software, and data).
  • Technical background, preferably with a spacecraft or spaceflight operations emphasis.
  • Knowledge and experience in the export of ITAR and EAR controlled items, highly desired.
  • Experience with documentation for Export Compliance and Ethics in Trade Compliance.
  • Certified United States Export Compliance Officer (CUSECO) certification is a plus.
  • Must be an effective team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
