Description

The Role:

We are looking for Process Engineers to join our Spring Hill Battery Assembly manufacturing team. The successful candidate will work within the Battery Assembly Manufacturing Engineering (ME) organization in any or all of the Battery Assembly areas (Pack Main Line, High Volume Module or Super Phase Module lines).
The successful candidate will work directly with Production Leadership in designing, implementing and maintaining Lean Manufacturing systems. The main purpose of the Battery Assembly Process Engineer is to provide professional technical knowledge, results and behaviors in the environment of new and mature manufacturing systems to sustain or increase safety, quality, throughput and efficiency. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to succeed in this role.

What You'll Do:

Ensure that manufacturing processes are maintained to run effectively for production by:

  • Support the day-to-day production needs on the production floor by maintaining solid relationships with the Production and Maintenance teams
  • Engineer, Design, Build, Implement and Maintain machinery, tools & equipment
  • Manage significant downtime events by providing technical guidance and support
  • Design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements with high integrity
  • Drive Continuous Improvement efforts in assigned area through the elimination of waste
  • Evaluate bottleneck areas and support throughput and productivity improvements in assigned area
  • Support change management projects by developing and participating in production trials
  • Reduce total cost by improving productivity metrics related to equipment uptime, cycle time and quality
  • Participate in lean manufacturing through implementation of GM's Global Manufacturing System
  • Support implementation and training for standardized work development
  • Become a coach and teacher of lean manufacturing principles to the production floor team members
  • Drive problem solving efforts
  • Work collaboratively as one team with all levels of the organization
  • Work collaboratively with machine and tool builders on the design and implementation of new tools and equipment
  • Create and Maintain Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans and PFMEAs
  • Lead plant Equipment Install / Debug / Launch / Continuous Improvement activities
  • Contribute to lessons learned activities by providing feedback and information to the central process team for BOE/BOP updates
  • Direct the design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants to produce high-quality parts and propulsion products
  • Provide technical direction to, and oversight of outside vendor sources when vendors are on site
  • Develop and test of advanced process technology
  • Leverage GD&T skillsets to ensure manufacturing equipment, tooling, assembly processes, and quality verifications procedures meet design requirements
  • Participate in Customer Quality, internal quality , Business Plan Deployment and Launch Wall meetings
  • Equipment Spare Part identification and stock request submission
  • Author Equipment Preventative Maintenance Plans and provide training for the Maintenance and Production teams to execute
  • Problem-solve (analyze data, determine root causes, develop implementation plans) and resolve issues which are affecting assembly, quality or throughput
  • Support implementation of new processes & equipment
  • Proactively identify & pursue opportunities to improve operations by reducing cost, reducing energy usage, improve quality, etc.
  • Support corporate and plant safety policies
  • Provides technical support for manufacturing operations
  • Coordinate input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Ability and willingness to regularly work any shift as well as periodic weekends and holidays
  • BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of assembly or machining process development experience in Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering discipline with plant floor experience and a background in Continuous Improvement
  • Experience in troubleshooting equipment [Problem Solving / Debug]
  • Competency in GD&T
  • Understanding of Pneumatic, Mechanical, and Control drawings.
  • Understanding / Application of Part Locating / Mechanics / Machine Design
  • Understanding of Theory of Constraints
  • Experience with Time Cycle Diagrams and Man / Machine Charts
  • Technical knowledge & ability in process engineering disciplines and product development process
  • Ability to apply agile methodologies
  • Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems
  • Experience in implementation of Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required

  • Demonstrated understanding of plant floor and design for manufacturability
  • ME assignments with successful individual achievements or strong team-based achievements
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Team Center, Microsoft Project, Simulation
  • Statistical problem solving training
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing & assembly processes
  • Experience with PFMEAs / Fastening Equipment / Sealing Dispensers / Cameras / Error Proofing Devices / Test Systems
  • Experience in process development, specification, procurement, and qualification of equipment & tooling.
  • Experience in documentation of Standardized Work procedures
  • Ability to adapt to different interpersonal styles and communication methods
  • Previous experience with project management and time management
