Position Title: Data Engineer
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Programming skills in Python for data extraction and loading.
An ideal candidate for this Data Engineer position should have strong proficiency in SQL for database management, along with experience in building and maintaining data pipelines. This can involve the use of ETL and API management tools. They should also have expertise in designing and optimizing data models, ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval.
A typical day for a Data Engineer involves a mix of designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines. These can take the form of DataStage, Boomi or Python processes. Typically, the day starts by checking the performance and integrity of existing pipelines and addressing any issues or bottlenecks. They might spend time writing or optimizing SQL queries. A significant portion of the day is often dedicated to working with ETL tools to automate data extraction and loading into data warehouses. Collaboration with other stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure the availability of accurate data is also a regular part of their routine.
In the first 60-90 days as a Data Engineer, the focus will be on onboarding and getting familiar with our data infrastructure, tools, and workflows. Initially, the candidate will learn about existing systems and contribute to smaller projects like debugging data pipelines and optimizing as necessary. Then, the candidate can take on larger responsibilities, such as designing new pipelines for upcoming projects and also contribute towards production support and maintenance activities. By the end of this period, the candidate should be able to handle core tasks independently and contribute towards strategic data engineering initiatives

Position Title: Data Engineer

The Data and Analytics team plays a vital role in collecting, integrating, and analyzing data from multiple sources to drive informed decision-making across the university. A key focus of our work is on seamless data integration, ensuring that diverse datasets are combined and structured for efficient analysis. In addition, the
team supports data visualization, transforming complex data into clear and actionable insights through dashboards, and meaningful reports.
Responsible for providing technical support and maintenance of our ETL platforms and other data integration tools and processes. Assists in identifying and implementing improvements and enhancements to our data integration systems, methods and processes. Also analyzes and resolves a variety of issues and program configurations involving and supporting our data integration and analytical systems and processes.
Provides support and maintenance to the University's data integration processes. Designs, develops, and analyzes data integration processes in alignment with functional and technical system requirements and creates and modifies data layer reporting objects. Develops programming code and software modifications using appropriate language and tools to deliver solutions and new functionality in enterprise-wide and/or complex systems. Directly contributes to improvements and enhancements to solutions developed. Conducts functional testing of integration processes and confirms compliance with business requirements.
Conducts research and analysis related to the ongoing review of business requirements needed for new design, development and maintenance of analytical data stores, logical models, programs or modifications and completes technical development and maintenance based on these requirements.
Conducts research and provides support and judgment with application upgrades to integration platforms. Shares responsibilities for providing support 24x7 and performs other duties as necessary.
Performs duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change
management, and incident management. Appropriately utilizes associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and three years' experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with writing complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis in relational databases.
Familiarity with ETL tools such as DataStage, Boomi, SSIS or Informatica.
