Job Title: OpenSearch Engineer

Location: Washington DC (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Contract

 

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced OpenSearch Engineer to design, implement, and optimize search and analytics solutions using OpenSearch. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in distributed search systems, data indexing, and performance tuning, along with experience in managing large-scale search clusters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain OpenSearch clusters for high availability and scalability.
  • Develop and optimize indexing strategies for structured and unstructured data.
  • Implement search and analytics features leveraging OpenSearch capabilities.
  • Monitor cluster health, performance, and security; troubleshoot issues proactively.
  • Configure and manage OpenSearch Dashboards for visualization and reporting.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate OpenSearch into applications.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Automate cluster operations using scripts and DevOps tools.

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
  • Expertise in indexing, query optimization, and cluster management.
  • Proficiency in REST APIs and JSON-based query DSL.
  • Experience with Linux environments and scripting (Bash, Python).
  • Familiarity with performance tuning and scaling search clusters.
  • Knowledge of data ingestion pipelines (Logstash, Beats, or similar).
  • Understanding of security features (TLS, RBAC, IAM integration).

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with AWS OpenSearch Service.
  • Knowledge of Kibana/OpenSearch Dashboards for visualization.
  • Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in search technologies, with at least 2+ years in OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.

Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
