Duties

Accountable for managing engineering design-related aspects of fertilizer or any other complex project(s) or small multiple projects, including engineering schedule and budget performance, quality of engineering solutions and deliverables, and coordination of design, procurement, and construction, Orchestrates all technical aspects of fertilizer or any other complex projects and makes project engineering execution decisions within the bounds set by applicable policies, standards, guides and contract commitments. Independently develop and apply advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects. Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work. Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Independently apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis problems and methods. Review lower-level engineering work or assignments. Lead larger production teams; coordinate multiple discipline activity; and serve as the responsible charge for a project. Function as a technical specialist. May supervise engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity or serve as a technical specialist and provide knowledge and expertise. Serve as a technical specialist and use knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area. Support multiple projects on the complex technical challenges. Actively foster knowledge management and mentor. Develop and apply advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. Develop additional expertise in a technical area, participate in professional societies by present papers, participate on technical committees, and assist with code/standard authoring. Provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black and Veatch policies. Assist to develop, maintain and update engineering standards. Provide technical guidance to others with projects and disciplines. Independently apply knowledge and comply with Black and Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks. Support continuous improvement and change management efforts. Coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects. Define project schedules for single discipline. Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on moderately complex projects and determine the key clients in some instances. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on moderately complex projects. Provide support to business development or pursuit activities. Assist with performance management process, mentor, recognition, and any corrective actions required. Participate in career planning, learning and development Resource Management (budgets, tools, processes, project support): implement resource management strategy. Manage engineering resources for small groups of process engineers. Oversee other Process Engineers. No hire/fire authority. Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related plus 8 years of related experience in the design or operations in fertilizer (Ammonia/Urea/UAN), Hydrogen and Synthesis Gas industries is required. Must have experience with PRO II, HYSYS, or similar process simulation packages. Must have experience with participating in PHA, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL and LOPA meetings as a Process Engineer. Must have experience with the development, review, and issue of various Process Engineering Deliverables (including PFD, HMB, P&IDs, Line list, Design Pressure and Temperature Diagrams, Material Selection Diagrams, Process Datasheets/specifications of Equipment, Utility/Catalyst/Chemical Summary, and Effluent Summary). Must have experience with leading the process engineering teams in various design and engineering phases (including Conceptual Study, Basic Engineering, Detail Engineering, Construction and Commissioning) of the project. Must have experience with functioning as technical specialist for fertilizer projects. Must have experience with supervising multi-discipline engineering staff on fertilizer projects of high complexity. International/national travel required 10%. Remote work within the 48 contiguous states is permitted. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
