we are a Tier 1 vendor for the City and County of San Francisco for Cloud Services, Staffing Services and Training Services. Roles/Responsibilities:

Under minimal supervision, the BW Engineer will be responsible for the following key tasks and deliverables:

  1. Migration Path Analysis and Recommendation
  • Analyze SMUD's existing SAP BW on HANA codebase and architecture to recommend the most optimal and efficient migration strategies to SAP S/4 HANA or SAP Datasphere platforms.
  • Assess technical feasibility, risks, benefits, and impact on current operations, providing clear guidance to ensure smooth migration.
  1. HANA Calculated Views Development
  • Design and deliver HANA calculated views tailored to meet detailed user requirements to support reporting and analytics needs.
  • Ensure views are optimized for performance and scalability within SMUD's SAP environment.
  1. Development and Support of BW and HANA Objects
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize SAP BW and HANA data objects and models required for key reporting areas including SAC Planning, Actuals, Labor, and Unit Cost models.
  • Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for these objects to ensure data accuracy and availability.
  1. Requirements Gathering and Impact Assessment
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, business users, and subject matter experts to gather comprehensive requirements and conduct impact analyses related to migration and enhancement projects.
  • Identify and mitigate potential negative consequences or disruptions stemming from migration activities or system changes.
  1. Documentation Creation and Knowledge Transfer
  • Produce comprehensive, clear, and standardized documentation for all developed solutions following internal SMUD standards.
  • Documentation will encompass process flows, technical specifications, installation/configuration guides, and operational manuals.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer to enable optimized long-term support and maintenance by SMUD technical staff.
  1. Metadata Artifacts Production
  • Create and maintain metadata artifacts such as data models, data dictionaries, metadata glossaries, and other documentation to support end-user understanding and adoption.
  • Ensure metadata accuracy and alignment with enterprise data governance standards.
  1. Automated Monitoring Implementation
  • Design and implement automated monitoring tools or processes to track the execution and performance of new code deployments and data flows.
  • Establish alerting mechanisms to promptly identify and resolve issues.
  1. BW Data Flow Migration
  • Migrate existing BW data flows from legacy versions (3.X) to the current standard (7.5), ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime during transitions.
  1. Environmental Assessment for Migration
  • Conduct thorough reviews of the current BW 7.5 environment and object to identify candidates for migration to SAP Datasphere or S/4 Real-Time Analytics.
  • Evaluate Xthe technical and business impacts of migrating specific objects and provide recommendations accordingly

Mandatory Skills:

The proposed resource must have:

A. Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience delivering:

  1. Data architecture, data engineering, or data orchestration solutions on SAP BW on HANA.
  2. Development of deliverables utilizing ABAP programming.
  3. BPC (Business Planning and Consolidation) reports and datasets supporting analysis and downstream reporting requirements.
  4. HANA calculated views are designed for use with Power BI.
  5. HANA calculated views specifically within the CCS (Customer Care and Billing), Work Management, Supply Chain, and Finance modules of SAP BW.
  6. Improvements in system performance and maintainability through reduction of technical debt by optimizing and standardizing the codebase.
  7. Migration initiatives involving the transition from BW on HANA to SAP Datasphere.

B. Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in:

  1. Utilizing the ODP (Operational Data Provisioning) framework to enable efficient and reliable data loading processes.
  2. Configuring and managing SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT) replication for real-time data capture and replication.
  3. Designing and developing embedded analytics reports in the SAP Fiori S/4HANA environment, emphasizing real-time data reporting that supports timely and accurate business decisions.
  4. Creating and optimizing S/4HANA CDS (Core Data Services) views tailored for analytics and real-time data consumption.

Desirable Skills:

  1. Provides experience in resumes that demonstrates qualification in these areas.
  2. Highly skilled in implementing robust security and authorization controls for CDS views and embedded analytics, ensuring that reports are accessible only to authorized users in compliance with organizational policies.
  3. Proficient in creating S/4HANA CDS views optimized for analytics and real-time data consumption.
  4. Familiar with SAP Datasphere for comprehensive data modeling and management across landscapes.
  5. Ability to provide recommendations for architecture, processes, standards, and/or policies that would benefit the long-term viability of SMUD's data landscape utilizing SAP S/4 HANA, real time analytics, SAP Analytics Cloud, Datasphere and Databricks.
  6. Experience delivering results as part of an Agile SCRUM team.
  7. Experience with Power BI visualizations built off HANA calculated views
