Leidos is seeking a Cyber Endpoint Security Intern to support the largest IT services program for the Navy. Under the Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) program, the Leidos team delivers the core backbone of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet, including cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport. Leidos supports the Navy in unifying its shore-based networks and data management to improve capability and service while also saving significant dollars by focusing efforts under one enterprise network.
The Cyber Endpoint Security Intern will join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization supporting Naval enterprise customers. This internship is designed for students who want hands-on experience in endpoint protection technologies, vulnerability remediation, security monitoring, and enterprise-scale cybersecurity support in a mission-critical Department of War (DoW) environment.
The ideal candidate is a rising junior or senior pursuing a technical degree and eager to build foundational experience in cybersecurity operations.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Operate all aspects of Information Systems (IS) data availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation.
- Implement and monitor endpoint security solutions for network systems and provide advice that systems and personnel adhere to established security standards and Governmental requirements for security on these systems.
- Develop and execute Government approved security policies, plans, and procedures; implement endpoint network security measures; operate and monitor network intrusion detection
- Operate Endpoint Security Systems (ESS), Microsoft Defender Endpoint (MDE), firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and other point of presence security tools, and related security operations.
- Perform defensive cyber operation duties including, but not limited to, ensuring workstation and server compliancy with Navy-Marine Corps Intranet Trellix Endpoint Security System (ESS), Microsoft Defender Endpoint (MDE) requirements; identifying cybersecurity incidents using Trellix ENS, Symantec Data Center Security (SDCS), Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP), Microsoft Defender Advance Hunting (XDR), and other automated tools; operating Imperva Web Application and Database firewalls; performing Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER'S) remedial action on cybersecurity incidents; and reporting defensive cyber operations statistics.
Basic Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field as a rising junior or senior.
- U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain a Secret security clearance (background investigation will be required).
- Strong interest in endpoint security operations and enterprise cybersecurity.
- Ability to work onsite at Norfolk Naval Station Monday through Friday day shift.
- Commitment to obtain the CompTIA Security+ certification (training support may be provided).
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, ability to work in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with endpoint security tools (e.g., Trellix/McAfee, Symantec, Tanium, Microsoft or similar).
- Basic understanding of security event triage, logs, or SIEM tools.
- Experience with Windows or Linux system administration principles.
- Coursework in network security, Cyber Security, scripting, or incident response
