Examples of applications are critical fleet (US Navy), spacecraft and satellites, aerospace, clean tech, alternative energy, semiconductor, AGtech, medical devices, and nuclear components.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for mid-level Welding Engineer to join our team located in Escondido, CA (north of San Diego). A hybrid remote working option may be considered for the right candidate.

\n

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    \n
  • With limited direction, this position will function in support of high-level objectives and produce well-structured documented work plans and procedures that ensure business needs are met.
  • \n
  • Responsible for making significant contributions towards our goal of establishing a best in class Welding Center of Excellence.
  • \n
  • Review Design drawings and associated technical documentation for correct weld symbol and welding process, procedures, Manufacturing Work Instructions, and Code application requirements.
  • \n
  • Develops weld maps, weld sequence maps, and supporting documentation for ensuring high quality and low distortion welds are achieved.
  • \n
  • Support estimating/proposal activities with respect to weldments.
  • \n
  • Leads weld qualification activities, such as Procedure Qualification Record (PQR), Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), Performance Qualification Test Record (PQTR).
  • \n
  • Review and approve Supplier documentation as needed.
  • \n
  • Resolve manufacturing issues and non-conformances related to welding.
  • \n
  • Perform on-site audits at suppliers to control quality as needed.
  • \n
  • Perform weld process training for welders
  • \n
  • Establish control plans/processes for welding operations.
  • \n
  • Supports operation of engineering systems by evaluating and interpreting needs and problems and develops effective approaches to resolving those issues.
  • \n
  • Troubleshoots, analyzes, and repairs systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
  • \n
  • Develops statements of work (SOW) and request for quotes (RFQ) as well as coordinates with external vendors to establish new capabilities or expand capacity.
  • \n
  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • \n
  • Advises the activities of welders, technicians and may direct the activities of less experienced professional staff.
  • \n
  • May represent the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • \n
  • Develops weld process efficiency plans and educates the organization as to their proper implementation and sustainment.
  • \n
  • Assists Manufacturing Engineers with shop routers, work instructions and fixtures/tooling design to ensure quality and technical requirements are met.
  • \n
  • Supports Clients/Customers with innovative welding technology solutions that add maximum value to their businesses.
  • \n
  • Is accountable for the development and submission of welding and NDE documentation to customers, in conjunction with the Quality Manager.
  • \n
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • \n
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree in welding engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. Requires 7-10 years of experience in the field. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • \n
  • Must have experience with, and a great understanding of, two (2) or more of the following welding standards and Codes, such as AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.6, D17.1, and ASME Section IX.
  • \n
  • Strongly desire a high level of expertise with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010-248, NAVSEA S9074-AR-GIB-010 278, NAVSEA T9074-AD-GIB-010-1688, and MIL-STD-1689.
  • \n
  • Desire a strong understanding of the following weld processes and two (2) of the cutting processes, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Laser Beam Welding (LBW), Oxy-Fuel Cutting (OFC), Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC), and Air Arc Carbon Gouging (AAC). Previous hands-on experience and certifications with these welding processes is a plus.

  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • \n
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • \n
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
  • \n
  • Must be Windows Operating System software, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc., proficient.
  • \n
  • Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks, is desired.
  • \n
  • Able to walk for long periods of time, stoop, squat, climb, and work extended hours and weekends as required.
  • \n
  • A Professional Engineering License is desirable, but not required.
  • \n
  • Certifications in Lean Six Sigma and American Welding Society (AWS) are a plus.
  • \n
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is desired.
  • \n
  • Robotic programming and welding experience is desired.
  • \n
  • Must be able to travel as required.
