A Tanium Patching Engineer with 3-5 years of experience is responsible for managing and optimizing the patch management lifecycle for an organization's endpoints using the Tanium platform. Key Responsibilities


A Tanium Patching Engineer's primary duties center around the secure and efficient management of a company's endpoints. These responsibilities include:


Patch Management: Plan, schedule, test, and deploy software and security patches for various operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and applications using Tanium Patch and Tanium Deploy .


Vulnerability Remediation: Collaborate with security teams to analyze vulnerability reports, prioritize remediation efforts based on risk and business impact, and track progress. This often involves using Tanium Comply and Tanium Discover .


Tanium Administration: Configure and maintain the Tanium platform, develop custom scripts, packages, and queries ( Tanium sensors ) to support specific patching requirements and optimize platform performance.


Automation: Utilize scripting languages like PowerShell, Python, or Bash to automate routine tasks, such as agent health checks, deployments, and reporting, to increase efficiency and accuracy.


Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to patch failures, deployment errors, and endpoint communication problems.


Compliance and Reporting: Generate and analyze reports on patch compliance, system vulnerabilities, and remediation progress to ensure endpoints meet internal and regulatory standards.


Collaboration: Work closely with IT operations, security teams, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of patch management processes and align efforts with overall security policies.


Required Skills and Qualifications


A successful candidate for this role should possess a blend of technical expertise and soft skills.


Technical Skills


Tanium Platform: Proven experience administering and managing Tanium, with in-depth knowledge of modules like Tanium Patch , Deploy , Comply , Discover , and Connect .


Operating Systems: Strong understanding of Windows, Linux, and macOS administration, particularly related to patching and security configurations.


Scripting: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell , Python , Bash ) for automation and integration tasks.


Endpoint Management: Extensive experience with endpoint management and patching at scale.


IT and Security Concepts: Solid knowledge of IT security best practices, vulnerability management, and compliance standards. Experience with other endpoint management tools like SCCM/MECM or Intune is a plus.


Infrastructure: Familiarity with IT infrastructure components like servers, networks, and virtualization technologies.


Soft Skills


Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve complex technical issues.


Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams and to document processes.


Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

qualifications:

Experience


- 3-5 years of professional experience in an IT infrastructure or operations role, with a focus on endpoint management and patching.


- A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with the Tanium platform, specifically for patch management.


- Experience in a large-scale enterprise environment is often preferred.
