Job Overview:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Closures Plastics Engineer to join our team, responsible for the design and development of the exterior plastics for a world-class vehicle. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vehicle exterior trim design, with a focus on quality, functionality, and cost-efficiency. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to create innovative exterior systems for the liftgate and side doors, ensuring top-tier design and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or contribute significantly to the packaging, engineering design, release, and launch of exterior plastics for liftgates and side doors.
- Design cutting-edge exterior systems focusing on quality, reliability, functionality, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including studio and vehicle engineering, to ensure the integration of all systems for the greater benefit of the vehicle.
- Utilize advanced engineering tools and innovative approaches to develop and support the systems generation process.
Qualifications:
- 2-4+ years of experience in vehicle exterior trim design and development, including experience with components such as:
- Side rockers
- Liftgate spoilers (multipiece)
- Rear liftgate finishers and panels
- Proven experience creating complex CAD models to an excellent standard, preferably using CATIA V5 or V6.
- In-depth knowledge of thermoplastic and thermoset resin materials, along with expertise in Class A manufacturing technologies (including painting).
- A solid understanding of the available computational tools used by design engineers.
- Launch experience in exterior parts or systems for vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong creative engineering and 3D problem-solving skills.
- 3+ years of experience with plastics design, including:
- Class A surfaces
- Front crash and aero features
- Lighting integration
- Module integration and tooling
- Resins, supply base, fit and finish
- Gap and flush, module concept, and thermal expansion
- A strong desire to create the best product, with a focus on working as an integral part of a collaborative team.
- Well-developed teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- A strong work ethic with a passion for excellence.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
